This study examines the lived experiences of Korean immigrant women intermarried to U.S. military personnel and their cultural practices of resistance to prejudice and discrimination that they encounter in everyday life. Based on ethnographic fieldwork in a Korean ethnic church and in its cell group meetings, it explores the ways in which they resist multiple hegemonic forces constantly operating in everyday life. As immigrant women of color with lower socioeconomic
backgrounds, they are subject to discrimination and stigmatization. Notwithstanding these conditions of living, they indeed construct strong spiritual identities through the use of religious symbols and discourses. They tend to reconstruct the past by using religious symbols and discourses, which is a means to make their everyday experiences religiously meaningful. They also construct a spiritual hierarchy, which generally coincides with their formal leadership roles and responsibilities in the church, as a means to counteract secular hierarchies categorized on the basis of race, gender, and class. Therefore, participation in church and its cell group meetings not only provides these women with opportunities for active engagement and empowerment, but also cultivates the cultural practices of resistance against discrimination and stigmatization.

이 글은 미군과 결혼하여 미국에 이주한 한인여성들의 일상적이고 실존적인 삶의 경험을 기술하고, 그들이 미국의 주류사회와 한인공동체 안에서 겪는 편견이나 차별에 대항하는 대안적 문화양식을 고찰하고 있다.이 논문은 미 중부에 있는 한 이민교회와 그의 구역모임에 대한 지속적인 참여관찰을 통해서 얻어진 자료를 바탕으로, 미군과 결혼하여 이주한 한인여성들이 일상생활에서 겪는 억압과 차별을 어떻게 대처하고 극복하는 가에 촛점을 두었다.이여성들은 낮은 사회적 지위의 유색인종 여성 이민자들로서
