The Dynamics and Perspective in Walzer’s Communitarian Critic of the Society Chung, Hyeon-Chul (Yonsei Univ. Wonju Camp.) This article focuses on the implications and the perspective of M. Walzer’s communitarian thought as Critical Theory. M. Walzer offers the ground for the dynamic critical theory of the society and opens the theoretical horizon for the critic of the society through his communitarian thought. In his project various theoretical elements play the important role. This article casts light on these elements and the relation between them. The points of this work are to investigate how his thought can mobilize the individuals for the formation of the community and to examine how it can offer the theoretical perspectives to them. In this work the characteristics of his liberal way to assemble the communitarian elements are also investigated. It will show whether M. Walzer’s thought can provide the ground for the active participation of the individuals, which is necessary for the practice of the critic of the society. This article, however, points to the weaknesses of his thought.

이 글은 왈쩌의 공동체주의적 사상의 비판이론적 함축과 전망을 고찰한다. 왈쩌는 그의 사상을 통해 사회비판에 유용한 역동성을 작동시킬 근거를 마련할 뿐 아니라 사회비판에 적합한 이론적 지평을 개척하고 있다. 그의 이러한 기획에 있어서 여러 부분 이론들이 중요한 역할을 담당하는데 이 글에서는 그의 정체성 이론을 포함해 그 밖의 다른 부분 이론들을 조망하고 이것들 간의 관계를 살펴볼 것이다. 이를 통해 이 글은 그의 사상이 어떤 방식으로 사회비판에 요구되는 구성원들의 비판적 역동성을 추동할 뿐만 아니라 그 실천에 필요한 이론적 전망을 열어주는지를 살펴볼 것이다. 이와 더불어 그가 그의 이론의 공동체주의적 요소들을 결합시키는 자유주의적 방식의 특성도 함께 고찰할 것이다. 이는 그가 사회적 비판에 필요한 구성원들의 참여적 역동성을 마련하는 데 있어서 가지는 자신감의 근거를 드러내 줄 것이다. 그러나 그의 이론 구성에 아쉽게도 결여된 측면도 있다는 점 역시 이 글에서는 지적할 것이다.
