The problem of environmental pollution and exhaustion of resources are now major emerging worldwide issue as in Korea. Therefore, establish of Socio-Economic system to promote sustainable development by reduction of environmental load is required urgently. Various architectural attempts are now in progress for the wide use of eco-friendly method. It's mainly due to architectural and social interest in connection with global demands for circumstances change on eco architecture.
The sustainable building design system which was applied to a major large scale building at the very beginning is now on shifting towards a compulsory provision by a "Green Building Certification" for multi-use building.
Construction of public facilities such as town office, library, child care center, and senior care center are very active in line with various demands for welfare. Sustainable building form and space planning, as well as functional part of a cultural and informational service for the local community and juveniles should be followed in public facilities which will represent social welfare and cultural level.

최근 우리나라를 비롯하여 전 세계적으로 환경오염 및 자원고갈 문제가 크게 대두되고 있음에 따라 환경부하가 작은 지속적 발전(Sustainable Development)이 가능한 경제사회 시스템의 구축이 시급히 요구되고 있는 실정이다. 이와 더불어 친환경 건축에 대한 건축적, 사회적 관심은 환경변화에 대한 국제적 요구와 연계하여 친환경 보급을 확대하기 위한 다양한 시도가 건축적으로 이루어지고 있다. 초기에 국내의 주요한 대규모 건축물들을 대상으로 시도되었던 건축물의 친환경설계는 이제 ‘친환경인증제도‘를 통하여 다중 이용시설의 건축물 설계 시 일부 강제조항으로 바뀌어가고 있다. 또한 근래에는 국민들의 복지에 대한 요구가 다양해지면서 각 행정지역에서는 공공시설(동사무소, 도서관, 어린이집, 노인회관 등)의 건립이 활발해지고 있다. 따라서 그 지역의 문화 및 복지 수준을 상징화 할 수 있는 공공시설은 지역주민, 청소년을 위한 문화적, 정보적 서비스의 기능적인 부분만이 아니라 건물의 친환경적 형태
및 공간계획에 대한 고려가 필히 수반되어야 할 것이다.
