The purpose of this study is to characterize ethics of justice and care respectively and explicate the limits of each ethics, and then explore ways to integrate the two ethics from the point of moral education. Ethics of justice has a merit in developing intellectual aspects of morality such as moral judgment while neglecting the affective or acting aspects. Ethics of care, on other hand, has a merit in developing affective or acting aspects whereas it has weakness in developing the ability of fair judgment in moral situations. Viewed from the perspective of moral education, it is required to integrate the two ethics while preserving the merits of each ethics if we would like to develop the integral character of students. In order to do so, it is desirable to attempt affective approach and cognitive one at the same time rather than segregate the two. Appropriate approaches to integration of the two ethics include moral pluralism, reflective equilibrium, community of inquiry, etc. Community of inquiry focussing on multidimensional thinking is itself an ethical community and contribute in balanced development of ethics of justice(critical thinking)and ethics of care(caring thinking).

이 논문은 정의윤리와 배려윤의 성격을 규명하고, 그것들의 한계를 밝힌 다음, 도덕교육의 관점에서 두 윤리의 통합을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 정의윤리는 도덕적 판단과 같은 지적인 측면에 개발에 기여하지만 정서적이며 행동적인 측면은 소홀히 한다는 문제점이 있다. 반면에 배려윤리는 정서적이며 행동적인 측면의 도덕성을 개발하는 데 기여하지만, 도덕적 문제 상황에서 무엇이 옳고 그른지를 공정하게 판단할 수 있는 능력을 개발하는 데 어려움이 있다. 도덕교육의 관점에서 학생들에게 완전한 인격을 개발하려면 두 윤리의 장점을 살린 통합적인 접근을 시도해야 한다. 그렇게 하기 위해서는 인지적인 접근과 정의적인 접근을 분리하는 것보다는 하나의 도덕적 문제 상황에서 인지적 접근과 동시에 정의적 접근 시도하는 것이 바람직하다. 정의윤리와 배려윤리의 통합적 교육에 적합한 방법으로 도덕적 다원주의, 반성적 평형, 탐구공동체 접근법 등을 들 수 있다. 다차원적 사고를 강조한 탐구공동체는 그 자체 윤리적인 공동체이며, 그 안에서의 활동은 정의윤리(비판적 사고)와 배려윤리(배려적 사고)의 균형적인 발전에 도움을 줄 수 있다.
