In early 2000, the studies related with U-City had begun as the introduction of the ubiquitous computing concept in Korea. The central government had built U-Cities by adapting ubiquitous technologies into city space for convenience, safety, and comfortableness. Now, the central government establishes the law for the legal construction of ubiquitous city and enacts the related enforcement. Although the foundation of U-City technology and service model has set up during this process, it is difficult to find out the service and technology having implementation data and study report in the real construction situation. This study shows the improvement results and output performance of applied technologies, touch screen, tempered glasses, USN/RTLS technologies, services for the construction of 9 U-City facilities through the project of Global Fair & Festival 2009 Incheon Korea. The result of this study will guide the city planner successfully by providing the adequate methodology, the usage of applied technologies, and service for further city information in the ICT business

현재, 국내 U-City 기술 및 서비스에 대한 이론적 토대는 수립되었으나, U-City 구축 과정에서 활용 가능하고 참조모델이 될만한 다양한 실증적 검증자료는 매우 취약하다. 본 연구는 U-City 사업 과정에서 외부 공간의 U-City 시설물을 구축하기 위해 응용된 기술 및 노하우, 서비스 체계, 그리고 서비스 운영 문제점의 개선사항 및 그 성과 등에 대하여 인천 세계도시축전(http://www.incheonfair.org)의 적용 사례를 통해 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 제시된 디지털 미디어보드와 U-벤치 시설물에 대한 정전식 터치스크린과 안쪽에 0.5mm 방탄필름을 부착한 8mm 및 15mm 강화유리 기술은 안정성과 터치성능을 크게 개선한 사례이며, 미아 찾기 서비스의 성과를 크게 개선한 USN 및 RTLS 기술, 그리고 9개의 외부 공간 UCity 시설물을 설계, 구축, 운영하는 과정에서 도출한 디자인 및 성능 상의 개선 사례 체크 리스트들은 향후 ICT형태의 유사 프로젝트 사업들에 의미 있는 시사점을 줄 것으로 기대한다.
