South Korea has also observed a growth of women trafficking phenomenon since the early 1990. This study presents a rough picture of the international women trafficking between the former Soviet republics and Korea by examining mail order bride business. Although mail order bride is not itself women trafficking, the intimate connection between two has been identified by many experts. Thus, this study assumes that analysis of mail order bride industry is expected to provide a rough picture of women trafficking phenomenon. Based on findings, an increasing number of young women from the former Soviet republics are looking for an opportunity to immigrate into Korea through marriage. They tend to be young, attractive, well educated, and well skilled. Geographically, a majority of these women came from two main origins, Uzbekistan and Far Eastern region of Russia. Geographical proximate and historical tie seem to work in this unequal distribution of women’s origin.

1990년 이래로 한국은 국제 인신매매의 빠른 증가를 경험했다. 이 연구는 국제 결혼 사업을 검토 함으로서, 옛 소련의 공화국들과 한국사이의 국제 여성 인신매매에 대한 간추린 밑그림을 보여주기 위한 것이다. 비록 국제결혼사업이 그 자체가 인신매매는 아니지만 인신매매와 국제결혼 사이에는 밀접한 관련성이 발견된다. 따라서, 이 연구가 국제결혼사업의 분석이 여성 인신매매의 개략적인 그림을 보여줄 거라 기대한다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 결혼을 통해 한국으로 들어오려는 기회를 찾는 옛 소련 지역으로부터 온 젊은 여자들의 수가 증가하고 있다. 이 들은 젊고, 매력적이며, 잘 교육받았고, 높은 전문성을 가지는 경향이 있다. 지리적으로 이 여자들의 대 부분은 우즈베키스탄과 러시아의 극동지방 두 곳으로부터 왔다. 지리적으로 가깝고 역사적으로 연계성이 있다는 점 때문에 여자들의 출신지역이 이 두 곳에 집중되는 듯하다.
