地域資源としての家印の活用 : 新潟県長岡市摂田屋地区の老舗における現地調査を通して
Effective Utilization of House Marks-Iejirushi as Valuable Regional Resource : A Study on the Old Establishments in Settaya District, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture
"Shirushi-mark" in Japan such as house signs and names was once widely used and was one of the extremely important life cultural elements for merchants and those living in mountainous and fishing villages. However, it has been disappearing rapidly today. The exceptions are those used by the established merchant shops and old families. It is an urgent problem to reconfirm and to recognize the modern social meanings of traditional "Shirushi" again. The paper covers a part of the research conducted for six old companies in Settaya District, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The district is known as "The Village of Brewing" and there existed many of these marks. The paper focuses specifically on the investigation on these marks through the literature research and the site investigation. It also analyzes the possible involvement of NPO called "The Village of Brewing, Settaya Town Redevelopment Movement" to use the outcome of this research and make people consider the meaning of existence and the use of "Shirushi" for the creation of a regional identity and of these six companies.
