This thesis studies 'Baekhwagukjeon' (The Tale of Flowers Nation) and 'Baekhwagukjaeseoljungheungrok' (The Revival of the Tale of Flowers Nation) in respect of their characteristics that they personified flowers and used war stories throughout the history of litterature. The two old Korean manuscripts are in the possession of professor Choi Seungbeom(崔勝範).
First of all, main themes of Baekhwagukjeon series are the invitation of hermits, the war against Pungguk (Nation of Wind) and the reign of Cheonjaguk (Nation of Emperor). The three stories highlighted propriety, virtue and loyalty of the characters belonged to Baekhwaguk, so that it approves the rule of right realized in the nation. Moreover it broadly embraced and acculturized the custom of flower-personifying allegory of previous generations. It seems that the writer purposely wrote the allegory in order to attract common readers and make them read it easily, by starting with good-and-evil composition, pursuing simplicity of the past and precedent examples.
In addition, we need to take notice that this series connects war story appeared in Yanyi allegories (popularized stories with the aim of easy reading) and that in hero stories. The description form of war stories borrowed the strock of hero epics emersed in 18th-19th century, although war projects the change of season, and the series is based on allegories which are influenced by pupular novels.
Meanwhile, two works named Baekhwagukjeon series are included in with other oeuvres of allegories, and since there is an oeuvre translated from Chinese into Korean, it is necessary to deal these in aspects of the range of allegorical litterature in the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty and communication dimension.

본고는 최승범 교수가 소장한 한글 고사본인 <백화국전>과 <백화국재설중흥록>이 화훼의 의인화와 군담활용의 특징을 보인다는 점에 주목하여 문학사적으로 작품을 고찰하였다.
먼저 <백화국전> 연작은 은자초치와 풍국(風國)과의 전쟁, 그리고 천자국의 통치를 뼈대로 삼았다. 이 세 이야기는 백화국의 인물들의 예(禮)․덕(德)․충(忠)을 부각시키며 백화국이 구현한 왕도정치(王道政治)를 긍정하고 있다. 그리고 전대화훼우언 문학의 관습을 폭넓게 수용․변용하였다. 선악구도의 도입과 고사(古事)․전고(典故)의 평이성의 추구는 작가가 일반 독자들의 흥미를 끌고 쉽게 읽을 수 있도록 한 의도적 글쓰기의 소산으로 이해된다.
또한 연의체 우언소설과 영웅소설에 나타난 군담의 고리를 이어준다는 점에서 주목을 요한다. 계절 변화를 전쟁으로 형상화하고 연의소설의 영향을 받은 우언소설에 뿌리를 두고 있으나 군담의 서술방법은 18～19세기에 나타난 영웅소설의 필치를 빌려왔다.
한편 <백화국전> 연작이라고 명명한 두 작품은 다른 우언문학 작품과 함께 수록되어 있는데, 한문에서 국문으로 번역한 작품도 있어 조선후기 우언문학의 영역과 소통 양상의 측면에서도 다룰 필요가 있다.
