The purpose of this study was to examine the matter of 'encounter' from the point of moral education and apply it in moral education based on Martin Buber's philosophy. According to Martin Buber, true meaning of human beings' life is 'encounter'. He supposes that there are two basic systems in human society, which are 'I-Thou' relationship and 'I-It' relationship. According to him, this world get joined together by these two relationships. The criterion of these classification is one's state of mind. Moral education needs to cultivate students' mind so that they practice moral values in their lives. Then students can lead their life morally and develop their right personality. When we judge someone's personality, we consider how that person speaks and acts. Like this, 'encounter' can be a key to solve 'humanity' problem in moral education. Moral education makes students step further into the ideal community through true
encountering with others as group members. Accordingly, the perspective of understanding the
issue of education from 'relationship' can be also found in the 'enlargement of value relationship' that is the principle of content composition of moral subject in 2007 revised curriculum. In the revised moral subject curriculum, the purpose is to allow students to live together with others in harmony in community and cultivate moral capability and attitude based on the understanding of the relationship between nature and transcendent being through moral education. In the content composition, the area of content is being expanded from 'I' as the moral subject to the relationship with us, others and society, relationship with the nation, people and global community and relationship with nature or transcendent being, and this can be thought of in association with Buber's three areas in establishing relationships of the life lived with nature, the life lived with others and the life lived with spiritual beings. It has meaning in the sense that 'encounter' enables the creation of true life and become the theoretical foundation of moral education.

본 연구의 목적은, 마르틴 부버의 ‘만남’ 철학을 바탕으로 ‘만남’의 문제를 도덕교육적 관점에서 규명하고 도덕과 교육에의 적용을 통한 시사점을 찾아보고자 하는데 있다. 마르틴 부버에 의하면 인간의 참된 삶은 곧 ‘만남’이다. 부버는 인간 세계의 근본적인 두 가지 질서로서, ‘나-너’의 관계와 ‘나-그것’의 관계를 상정한다. 우리가 사는 세계는 두 관계의 세계가 한데 어우러져 있다는 것이다. 여기에서 세계의 두 가지 본질은 ‘나’의 마음가짐에 의한 구분이다. 즉 타인과의 관계를 진정한 인격 대 인격의 ‘만남’으로 대하는 것은 곧 ‘마음’의 문제이다. 도덕 교육은 그러한 마음을 함양시킴으로서 도덕적 가치와 덕목을 관계 속에서 실천하도록 하여 학생들을 바람직한 삶으로 이끌 수 있다. 도덕교육에서 ‘만남’은 사람을 바람직하게 변화시켜가는 ‘사람됨’의 문제를 해결해 줄 수 있는 열쇠가 될 것이다. 이처럼 교육의 문제를 ‘관계’로부터 이해하는 관점은 2007 개정교육과정 도덕과의 내용 구성 원리인 ‘가치 관계 확대법’에서도 확인할 수 있다. 개정 도덕과 교육과정에서는 도덕과 교육을 통해 공동체 속에서 다른 사람과 더불어 조화롭게 살아가며, 나아가 자연과 초월적 존재와의 관계에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 한 도덕적 능력과 태도를 기르는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 내용 구성에서는 내용 영역을 도덕적 주체로서의 나로부터 시작해 우리․타인․사회와의 관계, 국가․민족․지구공동체와의 관계, 자연이나 초월적 존재와의 관계로 까지 확대시키고 있으며 이는 부버에 있어 관계를 세우는 세 영역인 자연과 더불어 사는 삶, 사람들과 더불어 사는 삶, 정신적 존재들과 더불어 사는 삶과 관련지어 생각해 볼 수 있다. ‘만남’은 참된 삶을 창조해 나가도록 해주며, 도덕과 교육의 이론적 뒷받침이 된다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.
