The ceramic works of Kawai Kanjiro who is respected as a famous mordern ceramic craft was influenced by the Joseon White Porcelain(1392-1910). His works can be divided 3 periods. The first period of his ceramic works was done a simple imitation to the Joseon White Porcelain. So that it is a difficult that the his works of this period have a originality. The second period is complished the correct application of Joseon White Porcelain by the understanding of the Joseon White Porcelain. The his works of this period can have the sprit of the form and design of Joseon white Porcelain on the meaning the real understanding the making Form od Joseon Period. The third period ia made a free form and design in his works. In expecial, this period he cam produce a informel which was a mainstream in the year of 1950 and can make a real application and can reach a transformation of Joseon White Porcelain. In result, the works of Kawai Kanjiro was originated from the Joseon White Porcelain and this point can see the works of so called Mingei crramic Artist such as Burnard Leach , Hamada Shousi and Monimoto Kenkichi. And This influence of Joseon White Porcelain can know the works of American Ceramic Artist as Macken zie Warren.

일본에서 근대도예가의 거장으로 추앙되고 있는 카와이칸지로(河井寬次郞)의 도업(陶業)은 3개의 시기로 나눌 수 있다. 1기는 조선백자를 단순히 모방했던 시기로 작품의 고유성이 형성되지 않은 시기라고 할 수 있다. 2기는 야나기 무네요시를 비롯한 하마다쇼지와 버나드리치와의 교류를 통해 조선백자를 기조로 만들어진 민예운동의 영향으로 조선백자에 대한 조형의 우수성을 알게 되어 자신의 작품에 조선백자의 조형성을 충실히 반영한 시기라고 할 수 있다. 특히 1930년 후반이후 카와이 칸지로는 조선백자 특히 19세기의 문방구를 모방한 다수의 작품을 제작하기에 이른다. 그러나 3기에 이르면 그는 1, 2에서 보인 조선백자의 모방에서 벗어나 조선백자를 응용 내지 변용하기에 이르고 이와 더불어 무정형(無定形)의 도자기를 추구하게 된다. 이러한 무정형의 추구는 1950년 이후 일본에서 유행한 전위미술의 영향으로 생각된다. 이와 같이 카와이칸지로는 그의 전 생애에 걸친 도업에서 조선백자의 영향은 시기에 따라 정도는 약간 다르지만 절대적이었다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그리고 이러한 현상은 카와이칸지로 이외 민예파도예가인 버나드리치, 도미모토켄키치, 하마다쇼지 등의 작품과 서양기법을 응용한 이타야하쟌(板谷波山)이나 전위도예를 이끌었던 소데이샤파(朱泥派)의 중심이었던 야기가즈오(八木一夫)의 작품에서도 동일하게 보여, 1920-30년대 조선백자를 토대로 만들어진 민예운동은 일본의 근대 도예가들에게 많은 영향을 미친 것으로 파악된다.
