The purpose of this study is to look at the footwear in fashion collections, analyze its creative potentials in footwear design, and to provide a basis for the trend forecast and idea development for the future footwear design. Photos from the 2001-2008 Paris, New York, and London collections were analyzed in accordance with their categories, shapes, colors, and materials. As a result, closed toe heels were the most popular items in fashion collections, followed by sandals, boots, and slippers. In terms of the shapes of toe and heel, tapered toes and spike heels appeared most frequently. In terms of color, there were twice as many single colors than multicolor, and the number of monocolor and chromatic color were about the same. YR series appeared most frequently among the chromatic colors, and there were more black than white. Accent color combinations were more popular than those of gradation. In terms of material, shoes made out of one material appeared more often than those of mixed materials in the order of leather, patent, suede, fabric, vinyl, and rubber. For mixed materials, a mixture of leather and fabric was most preferred.

본 연구의 목적은 패션 컬렉션을 중심으로 신발 디자인을 분석함으로써 신발 디자인의 무한한 잠재적 표현 영역을 확인하고 미래의 신발 트렌드 예측과 디자인 발상을 위한 기초 자료를 마련하는데 있다. 연구방법은 패션 잡지와 웹 사이트에서 2001년부터 2008년까지 파리, 밀라노, 뉴욕, 런던 컬렉션에 발표된 사진 자료를 추출하여 신발의 종류와 형태, 컬러, 소재의 특성을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 신발의 종류는 구두가 가장 많았고, 샌들, 부츠, 슬리퍼 순이었다. 토와 굽은 테퍼리드 토와 스파이크 힐이 가장 많았다. 색채는 다색보다 단색이 약 두 배로 많았고, 단색은 유채색과 무채색이 비슷한 빈도로 나타났다. 유채색에서는 YR계열, 무채색에서는 블랙이 가장 많았다. 다색에서는 액센트 배색이 가장 많았고, 그라데이션 배색은 빈도가 낮았다. 소재는 단일 소재가 혼합 소재보다 많았는데, 단일 소재는 가죽, 페이턴트, 스웨이드, 패브릭, 비닐, 고무 순이었고, 혼합 소재는 가죽+패브릭이 가장 많았다.
