The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between maternal depression and parenting behaviors, and whether this relationship is mediated by irrational beliefs in parenting. Five hundreds and six married women in community completed questionnaires about depression, parenting behaviors and irrational beliefs in parenting for the study. The result showed that depression of mothers significantly predicted their parenting behaviors. In addition, irrational beliefs in parenting, especially negative thoughts for the child, mediated the relationships between maternal depression and parenting behaviors. However, mother's self-blame and high parenting standards did not mediate the relationships between maternal
depression and parenting behaviors. The implications were discussed in relation to parental education and counseling for these women.

본 연구에서는 어머니의 우울이 자녀에 대한 양육행동에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 우울과 자녀양육행동의 관계에서 자녀양육관련 인지의 매개효과를 검증해보고자 하였다. 어머니의 우울, 양육행동, 자녀양육과 관련된 비합리적 사고를 측정하는 설문지를 서울과 경기지역의 지역사회 일반 어머니 506명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 연구결과, 어머니의 우울은 자녀에 대한양육행동을 유의하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자녀양육관련 비합리적 사고 변인 중자녀에 대한 부정적 사고는 어머니의 우울과 양육행동의 관계를 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 자녀양육과 관련된 비합리적 사고 변인 중 부모의 자기비난과 부모역할에 대한높은 기준설정은 우울과 양육행동의 관계를 매개하지 않았다. 이러한 연구결과에 기초하여, 인지적 접근의 부모교육과 우울한 어머니에 대한 상담과 관련된 시사점에 대한 논의가 있었다.
