This study aims at collecting various kinds of plant kits, analyzing their unique characteristics, and classifying them according to specific plant life, pot structure, and purpose. As a result of researching for this thesis I have discovered that web plant kits can be classified as fruit tree plant kits, vegetable plant kits, flowering grass plant kits and a miscellaneous category of plant kits which includes fungi, moss, and lichens. Plant kits are also classified according to their pot structure. Some pots have a general style, others exhibit innovations in plant technology, and other pots are more concerned with functionality. This thesis will also take into consideration each plant kit's potential for stimulating a child's interest in plant life, each plant kit's potential for teaching the basic principles of science, and each plant kit's ability to improve a child's understanding of the environment. Furthermore, members of science inventory research association and graduate students were invited to be the subject of a study that investigated the preference for plant kits and were asked their opinion about some attributes of plant kits which should be considered for use in elementary plant educational courses. The study showed that there is a very high demand for plant kit production for elementary educational courses. It also revealed that the most desirable kit are kits where the roots can be observed, digital flowerpots which make facial expressions depending on the amount of water and sunlight nutrition being supplied, and tumbling-toy flowerpots which shake when lacking water. The study also examined the degree of importance of each attribute as interests of students, appropriateness to the development level of students, ease of kit utilization, value, and relevance to life subjects.

본 연구는 식물 키트의 개발 현황 자료 수집을 하여, 식물 키트의 특성 분석 및 영역별 분류를 실시하고, 초등 교육과정에 도입 가능한 식물 키트 개발 기준을 제시하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 선행 연구물 분석과, Web 검색을 통해 식물키트를 분류한 결과 식물의 유형에 따라 과수, 채소, 화훼, 기타로 분류되었고 용기의 유형에 따라 일반용기, 새로운 아이디어가 담긴 용기, 기능성 용기로 분류되었다. 또한 식물키트 활용 목적에 따라서는 아동의 흥미․관심, 과학적 탐구력 신장, 환경교육의 세 가지 기준으로 대별되었다. 또한 (사)한국과학발명놀이연구회 회원 및 대학원생을 대상으로 식물키트의 선호도와 초등교육과정에 도입 시 고려해야하는 식물키트의 속성을 회전요인분석을 통해 조사 및 분석한 결과 초등교육과정에 키트 제작 및 활용에 대한 높은 요구를 확인할 수 있었으며, 초등교육에 도입하였을 경우 가장 바람직할 것으로 예상되는 키트는 순서대로 뿌리를 관찰할 수 있는 키트, 물, 햇빛을 표정으로 나타내는 디지털 화분, 그리고 물이 부족하면 기울어지는 오뚝이 화분 키트였다. 식물 키트가 갖고 있는 각 속성들의 중요도는 학생의 흥미와 관심, 학생의 발달 수준에 적합성, 키트 활용의 용이성, 교육적 가치, 생활주제와의 연관성 순으로 조사되었다.
