This study has specified the concept of sustainable energy consumption and the direction for promoting the supporting policies in an effort to realize sustainable energy consumption. To this end, the present condition of sustainable energy consumption, its obstacles, and relevant systems have been analyzed, based on which policy implications have been suggested in a way to enhance the participation of consumers.
According to the result of the analysis, labeling systems such as “indication of energy consumption efficiency grade” and “e-Standby program,” which have been implemented to expand the use of high-efficiency products and consumer choice, do not seem to provide consumers with sufficient and credible information, based on which consumers can make buying decisions. Also, many of the products of e-Standby program have turned out not to have “Energy Conservation Marks” attached, which could result in a low penetration rate. This result shows the need not only for the regulations on businesses but also for the enhancement of consumers’ information usage in terms of high-efficiency product labeling system.
Finally, based on the above analysis results, the study has proposed enhancement of labeling system to expand information usage of consumers for driving sustainable energy consumption in order to overcome the obstacle to consumers’ practice and to improve current system.

본 연구는 지속가능한 에너지소비생활의 확산을 목표로 하여 에너지의 효율향상과 절약행동을 실천하는데 필요한 중요정보 중 하나인 에너지효율관련 표시제도가 소비자정보활용 측면에서의 현황과 문제점을 검토하여 에너지효율제품의 선택과 효과적인 사용을 증진시킬 수 있는 차원으로 제도의 개선방안을 제시하였다.
고효율제품의 보급 확대와 소비자선택을 위한 정보제공 등의 목적으로 시행되고 있는 에너지소비효율등급표시와 대기전력저감프로그램 등의 표시제도를 검토한 결과, 소비자선택에 유용한 정보로 활용하는데 여러 가지 문제점을 나타내고 있고 특히 소비자가 신뢰성을 갖기에 미흡한 측면이 존재하였으며 대기전력저감우수제품의 경우, 실태조사 결과 에너지절약마크의 미부착 사례가 많아 낮은 보급율의 주요 원인으로 분석되었다. 이러한 결과는 고효율제품관련 표시제도의 운영방향을 사업자 규제의 측면 뿐 아니라 소비자 정보활용성 증대 차원으로 강화해야 하는 필요성을 보여준다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 이에 기초하여 지속가능한 에너지소비 유인을 위한 관련 표시제도의 개선방안을 제시하였다.
