The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the necessity of youth death education and to offer a basic understanding of the Christian counselling to deal with the issues involved.
Overseas, death education is geared mostly towards youth and is organized by schools, which provide such courses as part of their regular curriculum. The content of their death education is as follows: first, education on valuable life on the basis of understanding death properly, second, how to overcome the sense of loss caused by death, and third, preventive education against suicide.
From the Christian counselling point of view, the purpose of youths’death education must be focused on restoring the relationship with God, separated due to human sin, through Jesus Christ’s salvation. Some of the content that Christian counselling on youths’death education should include are: a self examinatory life that can maintain a right Christian attitude and values when living; a Christian way of understanding death; various information related to the process of death; strengthening the ability to deal with death; knowledge of how to help people with negative attitudes towards death; death anxiety or fear; people who are in grief; and the Christian world view on euthanasia and suicide.

본 연구는 문헌연구를 통해 죽음에 대한 청소년의 이해, 국내외에서 이루어지고 있는 죽음준비교육내용과 현황, 성경적 관점에서의 죽음에 대한 이해를 살펴보고, 이를 토대로 청소년 죽음준비교육의 필요성을 제기하며, 청소년 죽음준비교육의 기독교상담적 접근을 위한 기초적 이해를 제공하고자 하였다.
외국의 죽음준비교육의 가장 큰 특징은 죽음준비교육대상이 주로 청소년이라는 점이며 실시기관이 학교로서 정규교과과정으로 이루어지고 있다는 점이다. 그 죽음교육의 내용은 첫째, 죽음이해를 바탕으로 가치있는 삶에 대한 교육, 둘째, 사별로 인한 상실 극복방법, 셋째, 자살예방을 위한 교육으로 이루어
져있다.
기독교상담 입장에서 청소년 죽음준비교육의 목표는 죄로 인해 단절된 하나님과의 관계를 그리스도의 구속을 통해 회복시키는 것에 두어야 한다. 청소년 죽음준비교육을 위해 기독교상담에서 다루어야 할 내용은 기독교인으로서 올바른 생활태도와 가치관을 정립할 수 있는 자기 성찰적 삶, 기독교적인 죽음이해, 죽어가는 과정을 포함한 죽음관련 정보의 제공, 죽음에 대한 대처능력, 죽음에 대한 부정적 태도, 불안이나 공포 등의 감정변화, 비탄에 잠긴 사람들을 돕는 법, 안락사, 자살 등 사회적 죽음에 대한 기독교적 세계관 등이다.
