Each Automobile company has its own unique and distinct design process. Majority of automobile companies exercise clay modeling design process by using 2 dimensional sketch, tape drawing, and CAD. This design process can find innovational design trend and new automobile design elements by allowing many quality assurance processes which consume great deal of engineering and testing time. Unlikely clay modeling design process, Italdesign’s design process could dramatically reduce engineering and quality assurance time by using Epowood Resin or Plaster modeling through 1/10 scale drawing design process. This is one of the core Italia’s carrozzeria design process. By using this innovation design process, highly developed automobile design can be quickly and effectively demonstrated to clients within very short amount of time. Unlikely regular design sketch, Epowood Resin or Plaster is like a multi-dimensional design, so it allows designers to exam and modify the design very quickly. Handling and caring for Epowood Resin or Plaster is much durable and easy. Epowood Resin or Plaster model can be stored and kept for much longer duration than clay model and could minimize the risk of damaging the design during transfer. Also it is highly compatible in price. In addition, Epowood Resin or Plaster can be used with CAD which using the current design process without training designers or changing process. This study is for finding the effective way to make model through Italdesign's 1/10 scale drawing design process.

자동차 디자인 프로세스는 각 회사마다 고유의 방식이 있으나, 통상적으로 자동차 대기업들은 아이디어 스케치(2 Dimensional sketch)와 테이프 드로잉(Tape Drawing), CAD(Computer Aided Design)을 통한 클레이 모델링 프로세스를 채택하고 있다. 이러한 디자인 프로세스는 양적, 질적인 아이디어를 수많은 시행착오를 통해서 자동차 디자인에 새로운 조형요소나 새로운 디자인 트렌드를 찾아낸다는 장점이 있으나, 숙련된 여러 디자이너의 수많은 조율과 검토가 없이는 많은 시간(Man Hour) 과 많은 인력(Man power)이 요구된다. 이에 반해 이탈디자인의 디자인 프로세스는 1/10 스케일 드로잉을 통한 에포우드(Epowood Resin) 또는 석고(Plaster) 모델링 프로세스를 채택하고 있다. 이는 시간을 중시하는 이태리 카로체리아(Carozzeria) 중 이탈디자인의 특유의 디자인 프로세스이다. 수준 높은 디자인을 제한된 시간 안에 고객(Client)에게 효과적으로 실현할 수 있는 방법이라 할 수 있다. 즉, 1/10 스케일 드로잉은 일반 스케치와는 달리 입체를 구성 할 수 있는 도면과 같아서 빠른 시간 내에 결과를 검토해서 수정할 수 있기 때문이다. 에포우드(Epowood Resin), 석고(Plaster)는 모델링 재료의 특성상 장기간 보관이 용이하며, 이동시 파손의 우려가 적고 재료의 가격 경쟁력이 뛰어나다. 또한 CAD(Computer Aided Design)를 통한 가공이 용이하다 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 이탈디자인의 1/10 스케일 드로잉을 통한 모델링 프로세스를 통하여 자동차 디자인을 함에 있어서 아이디어를 효과적으로 빠른 시간 내에 모델로 구체화 할 수 있는 방안을 연구하고자 한다.
