- Makeup and Hair style represent culture that reflect the aspects of life, and thus the movie
has a large influence on them. The times were changing, and the movie become a popular way
for people to satisfy their artistic desire and so it became the leader of worldwide trends.
The actress occupies the most important part of the movie. She has to be able to portray the
essence of the movie and the success of the movie depends largely on her. The actress's
makeup hold an essential part in creating her image. Also, this gives direct impact to the
public, and the actress becomes the object of general imitation by people of all different
positions. The hollywood movies in the forties showed woman's image. Also physical characters of movie star were reflected in the movie. This study has examined characteristics of hollywood actress in 1940's, focusing on movie, ads, which sensitively respond to the social conditions. First, it has explained times background in 40's. Secondly, it has reviewed the makeup and hair style features in 40's. Thirdly, it has analyzed the makeup and hair style characteristic of hollywood actress in movie and pictures.
