The fate of filial piety in modern China is a relatively rough. "54" campaign period, with the era concern for the Enlightenment and national salvation, the intellectuals have been strongly criticized "filial piety" in the course of "Down-Confucianism". After the establishment of new China in 1949, the tradition of filial piety has been negated by the mainstream ideology for long time. By the'90s, the thoughts of promoting filial piety are rising in the civil society of China. In our view, the main value of traditional filial piety in contemporary Chinese society as follows: first of all, helping to solve the problem of social support for the old secondly, good for the promotion of parent-child, intergenerational and social harmony thirdly, helping to promote the contemporary social morality construction, the civilians’moral quality and social responsibility at last, helping to build the spirit home of the Chinese nation and enhancing the cohesion of the Chinese nation. Promotion of the filial piety needs to mobilize all social forces. Each of us, regardless of age and sex, should start from me and from now to be filial and support the old, respect and please the old , cultivate self and be responsible, be patriotic and prosper the nation.

孝道在现代中国的命运是比较坎坷。“五四”运动时期，知识界曾出于启蒙和救亡的时代关怀，在“打倒孔家店”的过程中强力“非孝”。 1949年新中国建立后，传统孝道也长期被主流意识形态所否定。到了上世纪90年代，中国民间兴起了弘孝的社会思潮。传统孝道在当代中国社会的价值，在我们看来主要主要体现为：第一，有助于解决社会养老问题。第二，有利于促进亲子、代际与社会和谐。第三，有助于推动当代社会的道德建设、提高公民的道德素质和社会责任感。第四，有助于构建中华民族的精神家园，提高中华民族的凝聚力。孝道文化的弘扬，需要调动全社会的力量，更需要我们每个人，不分年龄老幼，不分性别男女，都应该从我做起，从现在做起，孝亲养老，悦亲敬老，修身尽责，爱国兴族。
