Resolving problems in accordance with globalization and the migration of international population is important key for proceeding of the successful social integration policy. A matter of foreigners in Korean society just does not play much of a role at the governmental level compared to other social issues. But the fact is that the social integration policy of foreigners into Korean society is loomed slowly in current issues since the recent upsurge in foreigners is populated largely compared to the past. The purposes of this study represent to bring in problems and solutions in which multicultural families are facing; by looking present condition of Korean multicultural policy for social integration in multicultural society; through Multicultural Families Support Act of which suggest comprehensive direction of multicultural policy. As a result of this study, multicultural policy for social integration in Korea shall not be viewed in terms of Korean ethnicity which tendsto be traditional and closed-minded, even though there has been increase of foreigners and changes of international environment. Also this study shows that there has not been coherent policy for government to deal with foreigners in Korea. Furthermore, it is revealed that there are still problems left to be improved in the future such as choice of priority bidder, content and scope, and degree for the social integration. Therefore, study and discussion of problems and solutions for the social integration policy fall into three categories as level of the law and the regime, system of exclusive responsibility, and system of supporting for multicultural policy and program.

세계화와 이에 따른 국제인구의 이동에 따른 제반 문제점들을 해결하는 것은 성공적인 사회통합정책을 추진하는데 관건이라고 할 수 있다. 다른 사회문제들과 비교해볼 때 외국인 문제는 아직까지 국가적 차원에서 큰 비중을 차지하는 중요한 사안으로 다루어지고 있지 못하는 실정이지만, 과거에 비해 한국사회에 많은 외국인들이 급증하면서 이들을 한국사회로 통합하는 문제들이 현안으로 대두되고 있는 상황이다. 본 연구는 다문화사회에서의 사회통합을 위한 현재 우리나라의 다문화정책에 대한 현황을 먼저 살펴보고, 다문화정책의 종합적인 방향을 제시하는 다문화가족지원법을 통해 다문화가정이 직면하고 있는 문제와 이를 극복할 수 있는 방안을 제안하는데 의의를 두고 있다. 연구 결과, 우리나라에서의 사회통합을 위한 다문화 정책은 외국인의 유입증가와 국내외적 환경변화에도 불구하고 한국인의 전통적이고 폐쇄적인 ‘단일혈통 민족’의 시각에서 크게 벗어나지 못하고 있으며, 외국인에 대한 정부의 정책 역시 일관된 정책방향을 제시해주지 못하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 게다가 사회통합의 대상자 우선순위 선정, 사회통합의 내용 및 범위, 사회통합의 정도가 여전히 문제로 남아있다. 따라서 우리나라 사회통합정책의 문제점과 해결방안을 법과 제도적 차원, 전담체계, 다문화정책 및 프로그램 지원체계로 구분하여 논의하였다.
