Ever since ABEEK(Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) introduced American accreditation system for engineering education to Korea in 1999, a change in the curriculum and the processing of Engineering Education has been needed. This paper deals with how the assessment criteria and the assessment methods are changing in Engineering Education with the introduction of ABEEK accreditation system. The authorization standard in ABEEK system contains the new concept of liberal education in professions called as ‘complementary study’ in place of traditional liberal education. To make the best result of the ‘complementary study’, the existing system of liberal education has to be reformed and herewith, the mutual cooperation with the faculty in charge of the liberal education is obviously needed. Moreover, this paper provides the necessary information to faculty members teaching liberal education subjects to engineering students so that the liberal arts professors can play important roles in engineering education in Korea by explaining that system to them.

한국공학교육인증원이 1999년 미국의 공학교육인증제를 국내에 도입한 이후, 기존의 공학교육의 틀과는 다른 공학교육의 교과과정과 운영방법의 변화가 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 공학교육인증제도의 도입에 따라 변화하는 공학교육의 평가요구사항과 그 평가 방법에 대해서 살펴본다. 공학교육인증제도에서의 인증기준과 교양교육과의 관련성을 설명한다. 인증기준에는 기존의 교양교육을 대체하는 전문교양의 개념이 도입되었다. 전문교양의 효과를 거두기 위해서, 교양교육의 개편이 필요하며 여기에 교양교육 담당 교수들과의 상호보완과 협조가 필요하다. 공학도들을 대상으로 교양교육을 제공하는 교수들이 이해하고 있어야 할 공학교육 인증제도를 소개함으로써, 교양과목 담당 교수들이 공학교육인증제의 정착에 중요한 역할을 담당할 수 있도록 필요한 정보를 제공하고자 하는 것도 본 논문의 목적에 포함된다.
