According to Prince (1990: 360), the rhythmic harmony of trochaic foot is divided into the scale, {LL, H} ≻ HL ≻ L. In line with him, the degenerate foot, L is more marked than LL, H, and HL. In spite of the fact, we can come across the degenerate foot in English, Nankina, and Spanish, which we will deal with in this study. The aim of this study is two folds. One is to investigate common properties and differences, which are revealed in the languages' stress. The other is to analyse the degenerate foot with a consistent constraint hierarchy by employing classic Optimality Theory (Prince & Smolensky 1993, 2004).
