The purpose of the study was to explore the high school teacher's perception on the ways of designation and operation of self-governing private high school and provide some suggestions for the rational ways of designation and operation of it. The main results showed that if the teacher's perception on the high school was a little high, it needs to be careful of the greatly not high perception. It suggests that the policy needs to be operated gradually reflecting the needs of related group. Even if there were differences by the teacher's characteristics about the ways of designation and operation of the high school, teachers indicated negative perception on the ratio of foundation transfer money, student selection methods, the raising and application of school finance, and the autonomy of curriculum operation except the size of tuition. When the results were considered, the ratio of foundation transfer money needs careful approach and it needs to focus on making the ways of selecting students that fit the establishment of the high school rather than the way of standardized selection. It needs to search the way of expanding the selection unit to national unit having invariable ratio gradually for rethinking the competition power of private school. And, it needs that the school makes decide autonomously for fitting the goal of the high school for students who need social consideration. Also, the curriculum for the high school should be made by having autonomy, professionalism, and high responsibility which means that the curriculum will provide more educational benefits with students and make high the trust of public education.

본 연구의 목적은 자율형 사립고의 지정․운영방안에 대한 교사의 인식을 조사, 분석하고, 그 결과를 토대로 자율형 사립고의 합리적인 지정․운영방안을 위한 시사점을 제공하는데 있다. 주요 결과 및 시사점을 살펴보면, 자율형 사립고에 대한 교사들의 인지가 다소 높은 편이나 크게 높지 않은 인지에 유의할 필요가 있다. 이는 관련 집단의 요구를 충분히 반영하여 이 정책이 점진적으로 운영될 필요가 있음을 시사한다. 자율형 사립고의 지정․운영방안에 대해 교사의 특성별로 차이가 있지만 교사들은 등록금 규모를 제외하고 법인전입금 비율, 학생선발 방법, 학교경비 조달 및 활용, 교육과정 운영의 자율화 등에 대해 부정적인 인식을 보이고 있다. 이러한 점을 고려할 때, 법인전입금 비율은 신중한 접근이 필요하며, 획일적인 선발방안보다는 자율형 사립고의 설립이념에 적합한 학생을 선발할 수 있는 방안을 강구하는데 주력할 필요가 있다. 사학의 경쟁력 제고를 위해 점차적으로 선발단위를 전국단위의 일정 비율로 확대․모집하는 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. 그리고 사회적 배려대상자의 선발방안도 자율형 학교의 취지를 살려 학교 자율로 결정하게 하는 방안을 강구할 필요가 있다. 또한 자율형 사립고의 교육과정 설계는 자율적, 전문적, 책무성이 높게 이루어지도록 하여 학생들에게 더 많은 교육적 혜택을 주고 공교육의 신뢰를 높일 수 있도록 하여야 할 것이다.
