There needs to be a paradigm of evacuation and integration in current public design, which means that public design assumes the concept as a complex body executing a variety of functions, not a design of a simple objet. Thus, the design of a manhole as unified information design in Paju City put its focus on not only the execution of its original function & design-based research but also on the manifestation of the identity of Paju City as an informative objet. This study derived an accurate City identity by conducting a survey the developmental background for Paju city from 1995 until 2007, based on which this study fused the concept of unified information design into the design of a manhole in Paju city. Together with this, it is expected that the directivity of design for Paju City and expansion of design realm could be realized from this day onward.

현 공공디자인에 있어 비움과 통합이라는 패러다임이 요구되는데 이는 공공디자인이 단순한 오브제로서의 디자인이 아닌 다양한 기능을 수행하는 복합체로서의 개념을 의미한다. 따라서 파주시 통합정보디자인으로서의 맨홀디자인은 맨홀 본래의 기능수행 및 디자인적 연구는 물론 정보제공 오브제로서의 파주시 정체성을 표현하는 것에 초점을 맞추었다. 1995년부터 2007년까지의 파주시 개발배경을 조사하여 정확한 도시 아이덴티티를 도출하고 그것을 바탕으로 통합정보디자인 개념을 파주시 맨홀 디자인에 융합하였다. 이와 함께 앞으로의 파주시 공공디자인의 방향성 제시와 공공디자인의 영역 확대를 기대해 본다.
