This study aims first of all to understand the standard of beauty which modern people need in advanced civilized societies. Secondly, this is to objectively analyze natural beauty that people feel through the aesthetic analysis of plants in nature. Thirdly, to collect basic information to look for new methods of expressions in floriculture designs, a survey was carried out between majors and non-majors. The result of the analysis is following: The characteristics of plants which were the most preferred after analysis about preferences for aesthetics of foliage plants (Aphelandra squarrosa, Alocasia amazonica, Aglaonema 'Silver King', Aglaonema 'Malay Beauty', Caladium 'White Christmas', Caladium ‘Pink Beauty', Diffenbachia amoena, Diffenbachia marianne, Epipremnum aureum, Begonia rex, Begonia masoniana, Sansevieria trifasciata, Calathea insignis, Calathea ornata, Calathea macoyana, Maranta leuconeura, Peperomia sandersii, Pilea cadierei) with patterns were the ones (Deffenbachia picta 'Marriane', Alocasia amazonica, Caladium 'Pink Beauty') in which the lines are soft, flexible and lengthened. Yellow and red colors were preferred. The patterns with light color tones were preferred.

본 연구는 선진화 되어가는 문명사회에서 현대인이 필요로 하는 미의 기준을 이해하고 자연의 산물인 식물을 미학적 분석을 통해 인간이 느끼는 자연미에 대한 객관적 분석과 화훼 디자인의 새로운 표현수단을 찾는데 기본 정보를 수집하고자 무늬 관엽 식물에 대해 전공자와 비전공자를 나누어 설문조사․분석한 결과 다음과 같았다. 무늬 관엽 식물 19종(Aphelandra squarrosa, Alocasia amazonica, Aglaonema 'Silver King', Aglaonema 'Malay Beauty', Caladium 'White Christmas', Caladium 'Pink Beauty', Diffenbachia amoena, Diffenbachia picta 'Marianne', Epiprenum 'Mable Queen', Epiprinum 'Golden Queen', Begonia rex, Begonia masoniana, Sansevieria trifasciata, Calathea insignis, Calathea ornata, Calathea macoyana, Maranta leuconeura, Peperomia sandersii, Pilea cadierei)의 미학에 관한 선호도 분석 결과 전공자들에게 선호도가 높았던 식물은 Diffenbachia picta 'Marianne', Alocasia amazonica, Caladium 'Pink Beauty' 였으며, 그 식물들의 특징은 선이 부드럽고 유연하게 늘어지는 형태이며, 무늬색은 노랑색 또는 빨강색의 색상을 선호하였다. 또한 색채의 톤은 밝은 톤의 무늬가 있는 것을 선호하였다.
