In the early twenties century when the Korean modern drama had been established, the writers focused on modern love, and they introduced it into the drama as a symbol of new-horizontal ideal. However, the writers confronted a definite limit of modern love expression, as they accepted it without enough consideration and lack of sincere needs. For instance, words like public speech is a reflection of unexperienced modern love, and modern love couldn't be expressed by action. The difference between mature consideration of modern love's ideal and reality of the age caused a plot failure like protagonist's sudden death. But, this difference in 1910's drama discloses an internal mentality of the those days intellectuals, and reveals problems which should have occurred necessarily on the process that standardized love affair had spreaded over society. The analysis on 1910's drama should expedite the re-consideration about the chronic problems of Korean drama dramaturgy related to social reality.

근대 희곡의 성립 과정에서 창작 주체들은 문명화 된 새 시대의 이상으로서의 연애를 문제 삼았다. 그러나 절실한 내적 필요와 충분한 성찰을 통해 수용되지 못한 연애의 관념은 희곡 창작에서 그 한계를 드러냈다. 체화되지 못한 연애의 문제는 인물들의 연설조 대사로 전달되어 극 행동을 구현하지 못했고, 연애의 이상과 당대 현실의 격차는 인물의 급작스러운 죽음으로 극적 구성의 파탄을 가져오기도 했다. 그러나 1910년대 희곡이 보여준 이러한 균열의 지점들은 오히려 근대화의 모델로 정형화 된 연애가 당대 사회에 일방적으로 대입되는 과정에서 필연적으로 벌어질 수밖에 없었던 문제들과 당대 창작 주체들의 분열된 내면을 읽을 수 있게 한다는 점에서 유의미 하다. 또한 1910년대 희곡의 극작술의 심층을 분석함으로써 이후 고질적으로 지적되어 왔던 한국 희곡의 극작술 문제를 당대 현실과의 연관성 속에서 보다 근원적으로 재고해 보게 할 수 있을 것이다.
