These days, according to the increasing interests in 'reflection' in teacher education, the study about a teacher as the reflective practitioner is going on variously. Reflective teaching is the essential and basic characteristic of a teacher. As the relationship between teachers' reflective teaching and development is acknowledged, the assertion is expanding that teacher education focuses on the development of the teacher's reflective thinking. However, although a number of researches acknowledge the importance of 'reflection' and 'reflective teacher education,' they are highlighting only the implication of 'reflection' on the teacher's profession or the teacher education, overlooking the ambiguity of the notion, `reflection.' So the reflective thought is interpreted as a subject that should be taught or a sort of strategy that a teacher should learn, while the aspect is excluded that reflection is the interaction between the innate knowledge and the practice. As a result, on the basis of various notions of reflection, the reflective teacher education programs that increase the level of reflection are developed and practiced, and the reflection is accepted as a tool for increasing teacher professionalism. In this article, as a device of reflective teacher education, the meaning and the role of 'reflection' is surveyed in the course of pedagogical reasoning exposing teacher's Pedagogical Content Knowledge(PCK). First, the meaning of Schön's reflection is examined. Second, Shulman's pedagogical reasoning and action is examined and the meaning and the role of 'reflection' are considered on the course of revealing PCK. Third, new commentary of reflective teacher education is considered, analyzing the role of reflection and the meaning of PCK in 'Reflective Teaching Model' on the basis of reflections of two mathematics teachers in the middle school and their class improving cases.

최근 교사교육연구에서 ‘반성(reflection)’에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라 반성적 실천가로서의 교사에 대한 연구가 다양하게 진행되고 있다. 반성적 교수활동(reflective teaching)은 교사가 지녀야 하는 필수적이면서도 원초적인 성향으로, 교사의 반성적 활동과 전문성 신장이 서로 관련이 있다는 인식이 받아들여짐에 따라 교사교육은 교사의 반성 역량을 키우는 데 중점을 두어야 한다는 주장이 확산되고 있는 것이다.그러나 교사교육 분야의 많은 연구들은 ‘반성’과 ‘반성적 교사교육’의 중요성은 인지하면서도 ‘반성’ 개념의 모호성은 간과한 채 ‘반성’이 교사의 전문성이나 교사교육에 대하여 갖고 있는 함의점만을 부각시키고 있다. 이로 인하여 반성이 본래 갖고 있는 앎과 실천의 역동적인 상호작용이라는 측면은 배제된 채, 반성적 사고는 가르쳐져야 하는 대상이나 교사가 배워야 하는 하나의 기술로 해석되고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 각기 다른 반성 개념에 기초하면서도 반성의 수준을 높여준다는 반성적 교사교육 프로그램이 개발, 실행되어 반성은 교사의 전문성 신장을 위한 하나의 도구로 받아들여지기도 한다. 본 고에서는 반성적 교사교육의 한 가지 방안으로서 ‘반성’이라는 활동을 통한 교사의 교수학적 내용 지식(Pedagogical Content Knowledge)의 변화를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 첫째, 최근 ‘반성’이라는 화두를 꺼내든 Schön이 제기한 ‘반성’의 의미를 고찰하고자 한다. 둘째, 교사의 ‘반성’이 PCK에 어떤 영향을 주는지 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 PCK의 발현 과정을 제시한 Shulman과 Gudmundsdóttir의 교수학적 추론 과정을 바탕으로 수업분석노트를 구성하였다. 셋째, 2명의 중학교 수학교사의 반성과 이에 따른 수업개선 사례를 바탕으로 반성적 교사교육에서의 시사점을 찾아보고자 한다.
