Translation and interpretation performance constitute complex mental activities. They are complex, difficult to control, and require a large volume of linguistic knowledges. Excellent knowledge level in both languages is important. However it is also essential to master another type of knowledges in order to carry out the act of translation. There are operating skills, which that support the specific work of the translator or interpreter. The method of acquiring these skills should, as much as possible, be taught to students in translation and interpretation. The methodologies used are usually based on the transition from one language to another. Thus the action of translation is the basis of education, and the language skills are there to support it. Within the framework of translators and interpreters' training, improvement in foreign language competence also has to constitute a means to prepare the students for mastering appropriate professional skills. These can be classified: skills of both semantic and textual understanding; and interpretative skill which produces redistribution of the message. A part of the program of French Languages Improvement in first year of the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies aims to teach theses skills. In this paper, this aspect of the program will be examined.
