The police activities have been progressing respectively in accordance with every cultural trait and the difference in national consciousness. The police all over the world have been devising a variety of means in order to change the police serving on the basis of the public confidence, not the police keeping serveillance and suppressing from the police activities which are nothing but means to stay in power to the police activities which have a direct effect on qualities of the national life. As a result, this study deals with an evaluation on the public confidence rating and means to enhance the confidence rating of police activities. The demographical analysis of the public confidence rating shows as follows: Firstly, the public general confidence rating on the police activities has been showing high numerical value of 3.3458 per 5. This result is equal to the 66.76% average value during a period of 5 years that 'the survey of the national satisfaction rating on the police administration' is carried into effect by the Gallup poll every year. Secondly, according to sex, women have a 3.3560 higher confidence on the police activities as compared with men. In accordance with age, the confidence rating shows twenties, forties, under twenties, thirties, and fifties respectively in order. Depending on occupations, professional careers show a high confidence rating while the first industry such as agriculture a low confidence rating. According to an academic background and monthly income, the confidence rating and quantities have correlation. In accordance with residential districts, metropolitan cities shows a high confidence rating and a municipality, cities, and counties follow metropolitan cities. As a result, the public confidence rating on the police activities shows differently depending on a demographical characteristic.

과거 우리나라의 경찰은 정권유지를 위한 도구적 수단에 불과하다는 부정적인 이미지가 강하게 나타나고 있었다. 하지만 최근 선진 여러 나라에서는 국민의 삶의 질에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 경찰활동 즉, 치안유지와 서비스․봉사를 함께하는 경찰을 필요로 하고 있다. 이에 세계의 경찰은 이제 주민들을 감시하고 억압하는 경찰이 아닌 주민들의 신뢰를 바탕으로 봉사하는 경찰로 변화하기 위하여 다양한 방안들을 강구하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 경찰활동에 대한 주민의 신뢰도를 평가하고 전반적인 경찰활동의 신뢰도를 높이기 위한 방안들을 찾아내기 위해 시민들을 대상으로 현재 우리나라 경찰활동에 대한 신뢰도를 먼저 확인하고자 조사하였다. 경찰활동에 대한 주민의 신뢰도를 알아보기 위해 먼저 인계통계학적으로 조사하였으며, 가설의 설정을 6가지(성별, 연령, 수입, 주거, 학력, 직업)로 설정하여 선행연구의 결과와 비교하였으며, 본 연구결과의 결과치를 제시하였다.
