This dissertation is aimed at experiential researches into the political consciousness of university students in Korea. The political consciousness is a mental operation such as an opinion, criticism, recognition, and sense which leads people to a selection of political behavior as well as a generic term of consciousness, evaluation, and attitude which people have about political phenomena and problems. Because the political consciousness is defined as a feeling to politics, a way of thinking or a viewpoint of objects and symbolic matters can be a background of political behavior, it can be an important measure of watching the development of politics. In this point, the study of the political consciousness has an important significance. In particular, we can watch the development of democracy of Korea by the study in the political consciousness of University students; therefore it is by far more important. With the understanding of the importance, this study aims at parts. This study is focused on understanding how the political consciousness of university students is. For this study, subordinate factors such as political attitude, political trust, participation, democratic civil consciousness and attitude.

본 논문은 한국 대학생들의 정치의식에 대한 경험적 연구를 실시한 것이다. 정치의식은 정치적 사상과 정치문제에 대하여 사람들이 가지게 되는 인식, 평가, 태도의 총칭이자,정치적 행동의 선택으로 인도하는 의견,비판, 인식, 감각 등의 정신작용으로 규정할 수 있으며,이렇게 정치의식을 정치에 대한 느낌,사고방식 또는 정치활동의 배경이 되는 사물이나 상징물에 대한 관점으로 볼 때 그 나라 국민의 정치의식은 그 나라의 정치발전 정도를 가늠해 볼 수 있는 중요한 척도가 될 수 있다. 이러한 점에서 정치의식에 관한 연구는 매우 중요한 의미를 가지며, 특히 본 연구자가 관심을 가지는 대학생의 정치의식은 향우 우리나라 민주정치의 발전 가능성을 가늠할 수 있을 것이기 때문에 더욱 중요성을 가진다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 중요성을 인식하고 본 논문은 정치적으로 무관심하며, 정치의식이 낮다고 평가되어지는 현 한국 대학생들의 정치의식이 어떠한지, 정치의식을 결정하는 하위요소인 정치적 관심도, 정치적 성향,정치적 효능감,정치적 신뢰도,민주시민의식 및 태도를 가지고 연구하는데 그 목적이 있다.
