Effective Innovation Strategies for Small and Medium Exporting Enterprises (SMEEs) : Evidence from Asia Region

제품수명주기가 점차 짧아지는 급변하는 경영환경에 직면한 요즘, 혁신은 기업에 있어 지속적 경쟁우위의 중요한 요소로써 고려되고 있는데 이러한 이유는 혁신이 지속적 기업 성장 및 이윤 추구를 위해 매우 중요한 요인이기 때문이다. 이러한 점에서 심리적․조직적으로 종업원의 업무를 강화시키기 위해 기업은 그들에게 혁신적으로 동기를 부여해줄 필요성을 느낀다. 일반적으로 아시아지역에서 중소수출업체는 각국의 GDP성장, 고용창출과 외화획득에 많은 기여를 한다. 비록 경영학의 혁신분야에서는 현재까지 혁신과 관련하여 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔지만 혁신과 기업성를 중소 수출업체에 적용한 연구는 미비한 연구가 실행되고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 점에서 본 연구는 아시아 지역을 중심으로 중소수출업체의 제품성능, 공정, 마케팅, 조직 및 직원역량강화 등 혁신이 기업에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가에 대해 연구하였다. 본 연구의 문헌과 가설은 문헌연구를 통해 도출되었고 검증을 위해 아시아 지역에서 비즈니스를 주로 행하는 43개의 업체로부터 수집된 데이터를 기초로 하여 회귀분석을 통해 검증하였다. 분석결과, 제품과 공정혁신(기술적 혁신)은 기업성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며 조직혁신은 기업성과에 한계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 판명되었다. 매우 흥미로운 결과가 분석되었는데 마케팅 혁신은 기업의 성과와 반대로 나타났다. 한편 종업원 역량강화 및 기업성과 간의 관계에 대한 가정에서는 긍정적인 관계는 발견되지 않았다. 이러한 연구 결과는 중소 수출업체에게는 비기술적 혁신과 직원의 역량강화가 기업성과 향상에 효과가 있음을 나타낸다고 하겠다.
Innovation is widely regarded as a driver for sustaining competitive advantage specifically in highly volatile environment that make product life cycle shorter. It also ensures steady and faster firm growth, enjoying higher profit margin. With regard to, psychologically and organizationally empowered employees, they motivate to engage in their task innovatively so that innovation in firms will be enhanced. Relating to SMEs in the Asia region, they play a vital role by contributing to GDP, generating employment and earning foreign exchange. Though much research focuses on the contribution of SMEs, the relationship between the types of innovation and firm performance has not been widely explored notably the SMEEs. On this background the current study attempts to uncover the impact of types of innovations such as product, process, marketing and organization, and employee empowerment on SMEEs performance. Hypothesized relationship of this study is tested by employing hierarchical regression technique, based on data collected from 43 SMEEs in the Asia region. Results of the analysis demonstrate that product and process innovation (technical innovation) have a significantly positive impact on firm performance whereas organization innovation showed a marginally positive impact on firm performance. Interestingly, marketing innovation reported a marginal but negative relationship with firm performance. However, as assumed positive significant relationship between employee empowerment and firm performance has not been found. These result indicates that non-technical innovation and employee empowerment are less effective for SMEEs in enhancing firm performance.

Low Dose Exposure to Di-2-Ethylhexylphthalate in Juvenile Rats Alters the Expression of Genes Related with Thyroid Hormone Regulation

Phthalates widely used in the manufacture of plastics have deeply penetrated into our everyday lives. Recently, a concern over the toxicity of phthalates on thyroid, has been raised but in most of cases, the doses employed were unrealistically high. To investigate the effects of phthalates on thyroid, we investigated the effects of the repeated oral exposure to low to high doses (0.3, 3, 30 and 150 mg/kg) di-2-ethylhexylphthalate (DEHP) from weaning to maturity for 90 days in juvenile rats on the thyroid. The histological examination revealed that DEHP significantly induced hyperplasia in the thyroid from the doses of 30 mg/kg, which was confirmed with Ki67 staining. In line with this finding, increased mRNA expression of thyrotropin releasing hormone (Trh) was observed in the thyroid of female at 0.3 mg/kg and 150 mg/kg as determined by RNAseq analysis. Moreover, significantly increased expression of parathyroid hormone (Pth) in the female at 0.3 mg/kg, and thyroglobulin (Tg) and thyroid hormone responsive (Thrsp) in the male at 0.3 mg/kg were noted in the blood, of which changes were substantially attenuated at 150 m/kg, alluding the meaningful effects of low dose DEHP on the thyroid hormone regulation. Urinary excretion of mono-2-ethylhexyl-phthalate (MEHP), a major metabolite of DEHP was determined to be 4.10 and 12.26 ppb in male, 6.65 and 324 ppb in female at 0.3 and 30 mg/kg DEHP, respectively, which fell within reported human urine levels. Collectively, these results suggest a potential adverse effects of low dose phthalates on the thyroid.

Mapping of grain alkali digestion trait using a Cheongcheong/Nagdong doubled haploid population in rice

We performed a molecular marker-based analysis of quantitative trait loci for traits that determine the quality of appearance of grains using 120 doubled haploid lines developed by anther culture from the F1 cross between 'Cheongcheong' (Oryza sativa L. ssp. Indica) and 'Nagdong' (Oryza sativa L. ssp. Japonica). We therefore calculated the alkali digestion value (ADV), used to indirectly measure gelatinization temperature, to evaluate the quality of cooked rice in 2013 and 2014. The ADV score of frequency distribution was higher milled rice than brown rice. In total, nine different quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were found on 5 chromosomes in 2013 and 2014. Also, chromosome 5, 8 were detected over two years. We conclude that selected molecular markers from this QTL analysis could be exploited in future rice quality. In conclusion, we investigated ADV of brown and milled rice in CNDH population. This study found nine QTLs related to the ADV of brown and milled rice. The detected one marker can be used to select lines with desirable eating-quality traits because ADV is closely associated with the eating quality of cooked rice. Therefore, it will be useful to collect resources and distinguishable in many varieties for rice breeding program.

Impact of High Fat Diet-induced Obesity on the Plasma Levels of Monoamine Neurotransmitters in C57BL/6 Mice

Obesity is one of the most serious health problems in developed countries. It negatively affects diverse aspects of human wellbeing. Of these, a relationship between obesity and depression is widely recognized but biomarkers for assessment of obesity-associated mood changes in animal obesity models are rarely known. Here we explored the link between obesity and the plasma levels of monoamine neurotransmitters involved in mood control using a sensitive UPLC/MSMS technique in high fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity model in male C57BL/6 mice to explore the potential utility of plasma tests for obesity-associated mood change. HFD (60% of total calories, 8 weeks) induced significantly higher weight gains in body (+37.8%) and fat tissue (+306%) in male C57BL/6 mice. Bioanalysis of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in plasma at 8 weeks of HFD revealed that serotonin decreased significantly in the obese mice when compared to normal diet-fed mice ($2.7{\pm}0.6$ vs $4.3{\pm}2.0ng/ml$, N=8). Notably, a negative correlation was found between the levels of serotonin and body weight gains. Furthermore, principal component analysis (PCA) with the individual levels of neurotransmitters revealed that plasma levels of dopamine and serotonin could apparently differentiate the obese mice from lean ones. Our study demonstrated that blood plasma levels of neurotransmitters can be employed to evaluate the mood changes associated with obesity and more importantly, provided an important clue for understanding of the relationship between obesity and mood disorders.

Fasiglifam (TAK-875), a G Protein-Coupled Receptor 40 (GPR40) Agonist, May Induce Hepatotoxicity through Reactive Oxygen Species Generation in a GPR40-Dependent Manner

Fasiglifam (TAK-875) a G-protein coupled receptor 40 (GPR40) agonist, significantly improves hyperglycemia without hypoglycemia and weight gain, the major side effects of conventional anti-diabetics. Unfortunately, during multi-center Phase 3 clinical trials, unexpected liver toxicity resulted in premature termination of its development. Here, we investigated whether TAK-875 directly inflicts toxicity on hepatocytes and explored its underlying mechanism of toxicity. TAK-875 decreased viability of 2D and 3D cultures of HepG2, a human hepatocarcinoma cell line, in concentration-(>$50{\mu}M$) and time-dependent manners, both of which corresponded with ROS generation. An antioxidant, N-acetylcysteine, attenuated TAK-875-mediated hepatotoxicity, which confirmed the role of ROS generation. Of note, knockdown of GPR40 using siRNA abolished the hepatotoxicity of TAK-875 and attenuated ROS generation. In contrast, TAK-875 induced no cytotoxicity in fibroblasts up to $500{\mu}M$. Supporting the hepatotoxic potential of TAK-875, exposure to TAK-875 resulted in increased mortality of zebrafish larvae at$25{\mu}M$. Histopathological examination of zebrafish exposed to TAK-875 revealed severe hepatotoxicity as manifested by degenerated hypertrophic hepatocytes with cytoplasmic vacuolation and acentric nuclei, confirming that TAK-875 may induce direct hepatotoxicity and that ROS generation may be involved in a GPR40-dependent manner.

한국 서해 대륙붕 군산분지 중앙소분지의 층서

통합층서적 접근을 통하여 서해 대륙붕 군산분지 중앙소분지의 퇴적층을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 음향 기반암 상부에서부터 시퀀스 I (Cretaceous or older(?)), 시퀀스 II (Late Cretaceous), 시퀀스 III (late Late Cretaceous or younger(?)), 시퀀스 IV (Early Miocene or older(?)), 시퀀스 V (Middle Miocene) 등 5개의 시퀀스로 분대된다. 후기 쥐라기 말부터 탄루 단층대를 따라 주향이동 단층들이 발달하면서 소규모 열개 분지들이 형성되었고 이후 후기 백악기까지 지속된 분지단층들의 좌수향 이동에 의해 대규모의 인장력을 받게 되어 소규모 열개 분지들은 대규모의 인리형 분지로 확장되었다. 하지만 이후 팔레오세 말부터 시작되는 히말라얀 조산운동의 영향으로 변형이 되기 시작하고, 후기 에오세-전기 마이오세에 동중국에는 남북 주향의 습곡을 수반하는 강한 지구조운동이 나타나 구조 역전 현상이 일어났다. 지구조운동이 완화되면서 심한 습곡으로 인해 생긴 요철부를 부분적으로 채우며 퇴적층이 형성되고, 이후 광역적인 침강과 함께 플라이오세 및 제4기에 걸친 해침의 결과로 수평적인 양상의 퇴적층이 만들어졌으며, 현재와 같은 안정된 대륙 연변부 침강분지로 전이되었다.
Strata of the Central sub-basin in the Gunsan Basin, offshore, western Korea were analyzed by using integrated stratigraphy approach. As a result, five distinct unconformity-bounded units are recognized in the basin: Sequence I (Cretaceous or older(?)), Sequence II (Late Cretaceous), Sequence III (late Late Cretaceous or younger(?)), Sequence IV (Early Miocene or older(?)), Sequence V (Middle Miocene). Since the late Late Jurassic, along the Tan-Lu fault system wrench faults were developed and caused a series of small-scale strike-slip extensional basins. The sinistral movement of wrench faults continued until the Late Cretaceous forming a large-scale pull-apart basin. However, in the Early Tertiary, the orogenic event, called the Himalayan Orogeny, caused basin to be modified. From Late Eocene to Early Miocene, tectonic inversion accompanied by NW strike folds occurred in the East China. Therefore, the late Eocene to Oligocene was the main period of severe tectonic modification of the basin and Oligocene formation is hiatus. The rate of tectonic movements in Gunsan Basin slowed considerably. In that case, thermal subsidence up to the present has maintained with marine transgressions, which enable this area to change into the land part of the present basin.

Expression Levels of GABA-A Receptor Subunit Alpha 3, Gabra3 and Lipoprotein Lipase, Lpl Are Associated with the Susceptibility to Acetaminophen-Induced Hepatotoxicity

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is the serious and fatal drug-associated adverse effect, but its incidence is very low and individual variation in severity is substantial. Acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver injury accounts for >50% of reported DILI cases but little is known for the cause of individual variations in the severity. Intrinsic genetic variation is considered a key element but the identity of the genes was not well-established. Here, pre-biopsy method and microarray technique was applied to uncover the key genes for APAP-induced liver injury in mice, and a cause and effect experiment employing quantitative real-time PCR was conducted to confirm the correlation between the uncovered genes and APAP-induced hepatotoxicity. We identified the innately and differentially expressed genes of mice susceptible to APAP-induced hepatotoxicity in the pre-biopsied liver tissue before APAP treatment through microarray analysis of the global gene expression profiles (Affymetrix $GeneChip^{(R)}$ Mouse Gene 1.0 ST for 28,853 genes). Expression of 16 genes including Gdap10, Lpl, Gabra3 and Ccrn4l were significantly different (t-test: FDR <10%) more than 1.5 fold in the susceptible animals than resistant. To confirm the association with the susceptibility to APAP-induced hepatotoxicity, another set of animals were measured for the expression level of selected 4 genes (higher two and lower two genes) in the liver pre-biopsy and their sensitivity to APAP-induced hepatotoxicity was evaluated by post hoc. Notably, the expressions of Gabra3 and Lpl were significantly correlated with the severity of liver injury (p<0.05) demonstrating that these genes may be linked to the susceptibility to APAP-induced hepatotoxicity.

Cardioprotective Effects of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Radix on the Pressure Overloaded Heart Failure Model by Transverse Aortic Constriction-induced Mice

Objectives: The objective of this study is to demonstrate the cardioprotective effects of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Radix (SMR) on the pressure overload (PO)-induced heart failure (HF) by transverse aortic constriction (TAC) in C57BL/6 mice through possible antioxidant effects. Methods: The mortality, body and heart weights, antioxidant defense system of the heart and histopathology of heart were analyzed. The obtained results were compared with resveratrol, in which potent cardioprotective effects on TAC mice model were already proved at a dose level of 10 mg/kg by antioxidant effects, as reference in this experiment. Results: Significant increases of mortalities, heart weights, and hypertrophic, lytic and focal fibrotic histological changes in the left ventricles were found with defects of heart antioxidant defense systems - the increases of heart cortex MDA contents, decreases of GSH contents, SOD and CAT activities in TAC control mice as compared with sham vehicle control mice, respectively. However, these HF signs induced by TAC surgery through PO and destroys heart antioxidant defense systems were significantly and dose-dependently inhibited by 14 days continuous oral treatment of SMR 500, 250 and 125 mg/kg, similar to those of resveratrol 10 mg/kg in SMR 125 mg/kg. Conclusions: The results obtained in this study propose that oral administration of SMR potently alleviates PO-induced HF by TAC, through augmentation of heart antioxidant defense system.

비콘을 활용한 통학 시스템 설계

최근 통학버스로 인한 사고가 빈번하게 발생되고 있으며, 정부에서도 어린이 안전 종합대책을 발표하여 어린이 교통안전 취약지역에 대한 시스템을 구축할 예정이다. 학생들의 등하교시의 안전은 부모들에게 주된 관심사중 하나이다. 학교는 부모의 입장에서 학생이 무사히 학교에 도착했는지 또는 안전하게 귀가를 했는지에 대한 실시간 정보를 제공하는 체계를 가져야 할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 저전력 블루투스 무선통신 장비인 비콘과 스마트폰의 GPS기능을 이용하여 학생 승하차 여부와 통학버스 위치 조회를 제공하는 통학 시스템을 제안한다. 통학 시스템은 학생들에게 제공된 비콘 UUID 정보와 통학 버스 운전자 스마트 폰 GPS 위치를 응용 앱 서버에서 수집하여 학부모와 관리자가 실시간으로 확인하도록 구성하여 학부모와 관리자가 학생 탑승 여부, 탑승시간과 버스 위치에 대해 실시간으로 정보를 확인할 수 있다. 운전자는 학생들의 탑승여부, 오탑승 여부, 운행 후 잔류학생 확인을 파악할 수 있다.
The incident during commuting to school happened frequently in these days, such that the government announced the student commuting safety policy for addressing to implement the safety management system of the unsafer school commuting zone. In this paper, a commuting tracking system is proposed that notifies the location of vehicles and the boarding status of student using BLE beacon and smart phone GPS function. The commuting tracking system that gets the data from the system server of driver's smart phone GPS location and UUID of the beacon which had provided students has configured to provide notifications to parents and related administrators. It provides real-time information about whether a student boarding, boarding times and bus locations for parents and administrators. It verifies the disembarking time for each student and also provides to driver to secure if any student tries to board the wrong school bus and if any students is left behind in the bus.

Objectives: This clinical study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of traditional Korean medicine (TKM) on a patient with akinetic mutism.Method: A patient with akinetic mutism diagnosed with left-anterior cerebral artery infarction was treated with acupuncture and herbal medication; the patient was then evaluated for any improvements in clinical symptoms.Results: Improvements in akinetic mutism symptoms were observed following the TKM treatment.Conclusion: This study shows that TKM treatment for akinetic mutism due to left-anterior cerebral artery infarction may be an effective treatment option.

Phototoxicity: Its Mechanism and Animal Alternative Test Methods

The skin exposure to solar irradiation and photoreactive xenobiotics may produce abnormal skin reaction, phototoxicity. Phototoxicity is an acute light-induced response, which occurs when photoreacive chemicals are activated by solar lights and transformed into products cytotoxic against the skin cells. Multifarious symptoms of phototoxicity are identified, skin irritation, erythema, pruritis, and edema that are similar to those of the exaggerated sunburn. Diverse organic chemicals, especially drugs, are known to induce phototoxicity, which is probably from the common possession of UV-absorbing benzene or heterocyclic rings in their molecular structures. Both UVB (290~320 nm) and UVA (320~400 nm) are responsible for the manifestation of phototoxicity. Absorption of photons and absorbed energy (hv) by photoactive chemicals results in molecular changes or generates reactive oxygen species and depending on the way how endogenous molecules are affected by phototoxicants, mechanisms of phototoxcity is categorized into two modes of action: Direct when unstable species from excited state directly react with the endogenous molecules, and indirect when endogeneous molecules react with secondary photoproducts. In order to identify phototoxic potential of a chemical, various test methods have been introduced. Focus is given to animal alternative test methods, i.e., in vitro, and in chemico assays as well as in vivo. 3T3 neutral red uptake assay, erythrocyte photohemolysis test, and phototoxicity test using human 3-dimensional (3D) epidermis model are examples of in vitro assays. In chemico methods evaluate the generation of reactive oxygen species or DNA strand break activity employing plasmid for chemicals, or drugs with phototoxic potential.

음악산업은 창의산업의 한 영역으로 간주되며 문화적 측면 뿐 아니라 사회경제적으로 그 영향력이 크다. 또한 다른 산업과의 융복합을 통하여 부가가치 창출에 중요한 역할을 한다. 이러한 음악산업은 창의적인 인력과 문화 소비인구가 집중되어 있는 도시에서 주로 나타나고 있기에, 음악산업 전반에 대한 연구와 도시 공간 내의 입지에 대한 연구는 매우 중요하다. 서울시를 대상으로 음악산업 가치사슬 내 각 가치체계별 도시공간내 입지를 GIS와 공간통계기법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 음악산업은 기획, 제작, 유통, 판매, 그리고 음악공연업으로 가치 체계를 정의할 수 있다. 이러한 음악산업 가치사슬은 도시 공간 내에서 클러스터링을 이루며 공간적 자기상관을 보이는데, 가치사슬별로 주요 집적지역은 다르나 강남, 구로, 마포, 종로 일대 지역에 집중적으로 위치한다.
Music industry is considered as a creative industry, which tends to locate within a city. However, there is very few paper analysing spatial patterns of music industry in Korea. This study aims to understand music industry's value chain and its location pattern; whether it is clustered or dispersed. In detail, music industry contains five sub-industry: planning, manufacturing, distribution, sales and performance. Locational pattern of each sub-industry is tested by GIS and hot spot analysis. There are several findings from this research. First, value chain of music industry make clusters and have a spatial autocorrelation. Second, the result shows that music industry makes a hotspot area at Gangnam, Guro, Mapo and Jongro-Junggu.

Inhibitory Effect of Korean Fermented Vegetable (Kimchi) on the Growth and Aflatoxin Production of Aspergillus parasicitus-Part 1.

Aflatoxin $B_1$ is a mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus and is a human carcinogen. This study was performed to investigate reduction of growth and aflatoxin production of A. parasiticus by kimchi. A. parasiticus was grown in a modified APT broth with the juice of kimchi (at a concentration of 7%) at $28^{\circ}C$ for 9 days. Aflatoxin $B_1$ was determined by use of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The addition of the juice of kimchi significantly reduced mycelial growth and aflatoxin production during the incubation period (p<0.05). Reduction of mycelial growth of A. parasiticus as the result of addition of the juice of kimchi was observed to range between 64.8 to 83.4% while reduction of aflatoxin production ranged from 62.2 to 73.0%. This study indicates that kimchi could be an effective inhibitor of aflatoxin production although mycelial growth may be permitted. More research is needed to study the inhibitory effects of the metabolites of kimchi.

Objective : To research the trends of study related to tension-type headache and migrain with acupuncture in PubMed, and to establish the hereafter direction of acupuncture. for tension-type headache and migrain. Methods : We searched in PubMed, with tension-type headache, migrain and acupuncture limitted by abstract and enterz data 10 years. Results : 1. The pattern of the study was as follows: Review article(18), Clinical Trials(23), meta analysis(2) and rondomized controlled trials(16). We further estimated 23 articles. 2. Many of these studies provide equivocal results because of designs, sample size and the others, but in the majority of the trials were concludes that acupuncture offers benefits in the treatment of headache. 3. Acupuncture methods need individualization, a carefully selected placebo and cross-over design must have adequate time between the two treatment periods.

In this paper, an efficient FFT-based fault detection algorithm is proposed. In our proposed method, fault detection is accomplished by process similar to the conventional FFT-based fault detection.
