The process operated by the men’s clothing brand does not show much difference in systems built in the 1980s and 1990s during mass production and growth, which may be said to require reflection on the need for change amid the new global competition structure. The study aims to propose a design outsourcing process through an integrated design planning organization as an alternative to competitiveness in the rapidly changing fashion business environment. As for the method of research, the study reviewed the literature related to the topic and based on above, in-depth interviews were conducted with experts on planning men's clothing and outsourcing. The current difficulties and crises of the men's clothing brand were cited as diversification of consumer needs, the threat of global SPA, growth of online editing stores, securing price competitiveness and reducing costs, according to the survey. As an alternative to this, it is necessary to change the design planning organization of men's clothing to an integrated designer whose work and role are combined with those of designers and Merchandisers, and to maintain a partnership of mutual cooperation with outside specialized design outsourcing companies. The design planning of menswear should operate as an integrated process with outsourcing companies through an integrated organization, and should be interested in fostering the workforce for this purpose. At the heart of the new process is the operation of an integrated designer with the ability and sensibility to see the perspective of designers and Merchandisers in a balanced way. Integrated organizations and processes have the advantages of fast decision making as the process of processing information is simplified, and their performance may vary for each person in charge according to the scope of responsibility and authority. The role of design outsourcing lies in active investment in R&D to gain design and production competitiveness by actively exploring foreign market buyers.

In order to increase competitiveness and to gain economic benefit, companies ask more and more how to recycle their products in an efficient way. So far, to answer this question, companies are not sufficiently supported by suitable methods specially in the area of disassembly process planning. For this reason, we develop in collaboration with an industrial partner a new method for generating an optimal disassembly sequence. In this paper this method will be described in detail by considering the exiting assembly information, disassembly method and disassembly depth. PLM(Profit-Loss Margin) curve that is used to determine disassembly depth consists of profit value, disassembly cost and disassembly effect. Using assessment parameters, generated alternative disassembly sequences are evaluated and an optimal disassembly sequence is proposed. This method is applied to generate the optimal disassembly sequence of Door Trim as an example.

This paper presents a process and operation planning system with an NC code post-processor for effective machining of press dies for production of cars. Based on the machining features, major parts of press dies are categorized into 15 groups and a standard process plan is defined for each group. The standard process plan consists of a series of processes where a process is defined as a group of operations that can be done with one setup. Details such as cutting tools, cutting conditions, and tool paths are decided at the operation planning stage. At the final stage of process and operation planning, the NC code post-processor we developed adjusts feedrates along the tool path to reduce machining time. The adjustment rule is selected based on the metal removal rate estimated by virtually machining with virtual cutting tool.

Weather strip is a functional component of a car body and doors for leaking protection, isolating outside noise and vibration reduction. Insert metal inserted to the weather strip plays a key role to keep the shape of the weather strip and increase its strength. Insert metal is mainly produced by a press process, which has low productivity and 40% material loss due to the scraps. To solve the problems, a high-speed rolling process for manufacturing the insert metal of weather strip is being attempted. In this study, the insert metal is manufactured by a high-speed rolling process, and its process variables: reduction, relative velocity of rollers and the number of passes, are optimized by using the FEA and the actual tests. The prototype was manufactured by the optimal process.

This paper presents an approach to automate process planning of press dies for manufacturing of car bodies. Considering that the press-dies used at the same press operations regardless of the panels they produce or the car models of which they produce panels have similar shapes except for the forming part of the dies, general approaches to recognize manufacturing features from CAD models are not necessary. Therefore, a hybrid approach is proposed combining feature-based design and feature-extraction approaches. The proposed method recognizes features by parsing the parameters extracted from CAD models and finds proper operations by querying the database by the recognized features. An internet-based process planning system is developed to demonstrate the proposed approach and to suggest a new paradigm of process planning system that utilizes an internet access to the CAD system.

This paper presents a variant type process planning system for machining of dies for auto-body production. Through the analysis of dies and their manufacturing processes, the authors categorized the press dies into 15 groups according to the similarity of machining features. After critically reviewing current manufacturing procedures, a standard process plan was defined for each group. The authors present MP3D the process planning system built on the standard process plan database, and show how they apply it at the die manufacturing plant of an automobile company. MP3D is expected to reduce major losses in machining such as reworking caused by mistakenly uncut features and eventually to help to accumulate the knowledge of operators. The operation sheet MP3D produces is also used in monitoring the progress of manufacturing of dies. This paper explains the whole development cycle of a process planning system from process analysis to application so that it can help readers to develop and apply a process planning system to their machine shops.

This paper describes the development of an integrating method for process planning and scheduling activities for block assembly in shipbuilding. A block is composed of several steel plates and steel sections with the predetermined shapes according to the ship design. The parts which constitute the block are manufac- tured by cutting and/or bending operations, which are termed as machining operation in this paper. The machining operation is the first process for block assembly which influences the remaining block assembly processes. Thus process planning and scheduling for machining operation to manufacture parts for block are very important to meet the assembly schedule in the shipyard. An integrating method for process plan- ning and scheduling is developed by introducing the concept of distributed process planning and scheduling composed of initial planning, alternative planning and final planning stages. In initial planning stage, nesting parts information and machining emthods are generated for each steel plate. In alternative plan- ning stage, machine groups are selected and workcenter dispatching information is generated. In final planning stage, cutting sequences are determined. The integrated system is tested by case study. The result shows that the integrated system is more efficient than existing manual planning system.

This paper deals with an automated computer-aided process planning and die design system by which designer can determine operation sequences even if they have a little experience in process planning and die design of quasi-axisymmetric cold forging product by cold former working. The approach to the system is based on knowledge-based rules and a process knowledge base consisting of design rules is built. Knowledge for the system is formulated from plasticity theories, empirical results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. Programs for the system have been written in AutoLISP for the AutoCAD using a personal computer. An attempt is made to link programs incorporating a number of expert design rules with the process variables obtained by commercial FEM softwares, DEFORM and ANSYS, to form a useful package. The system is composed of three main modules and five sub-modules. The process planning and die design module considers several factors, such as the complexities of preform geometry, punch and die profiles, specifications of available cold farmer, and the availability of standard parts. As the system using 2D geometry recognition is integrated with the technology of process planning, die design, and CAE analysis, the standardization of die parts for wheel bolt requiring cold forging process is possible. The developed system makes it possible to design and manufacture quasi-axisymmetric cold forging product more efficiently.

In this paper, the automated initial process planning for 3-axis NC machining of sculptured surfaces is persented. The solution algorithms determining three process planning functions, i.e. machining feasibility, setup orientation and feasible machine selection are developed. The machining feasibility is determined by means of BSM(Binary Spherical Map) which derives its solution quickly in algebraic form, and the setup orientation is determined so that the cutting force is minimized. Finally, the feasible machine is determined by computing the minimum motion ranges of each control axisl. The developed algorithms are tested by numerical simulations, convincing they can by readily implemented on the CAD/CAM system as a process planner.

This paper describes interactive computer procedures for design the forming sequences in cold forging. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial AutoCAD system. The programming language. AutoLISP, was used for the configuration of the system. Since the process of metal forming can be considered as a transformation of geometry, treatment of the geometry of the part is a key in process planning. To recognize the part section geometry, the section entity representation, the section coordinate-redius representation and the section primitive geometru were adopted. This system includes six major modules such as input module, forging design module, forming sequence design module, die design module, FEM verification module and output module which are used independently or in all. The sequence drawing wigh all dimensions, which includes the dimensional tolerances and the proper sequence of operations, can generate under the environment of AutoCAD. The acceptable forming sequences can be verified further, using the FE simulation.

A number of small and medium design companies in Korea are making efforts to develop distinguished products with an aim to survive and prosper. However, it is quite difficult to succeed due to insufficient experience in product planning and the challenges in applying known methodologies, which are based on a large amount of data presented as best practices in designing process, in the actual small and medium enterprise operations. To this end, this study suggested the usefulness of the user participation process as the methodology for small and medium design companies and chose the user FGD method implemented by Company P which is a small design company as an empirical case study. The following are the processes used in the case study; First, the problems of existing baby bath were derived through user FGD. Second, opinions were collected from various classes of users through in-depth interviews. Third, the ideas derived were analyzed with the KJ method and grouped based on similar elements, through which six design directions and detailed design concepts covering size, material, safety, purchase factors of existing product, direction of improvement, additional elements were derived. Through the case study, this study verified that the FGD method of Company P could improve the practical verification, integration and promptness of the product planning process in small and medium enterprises. This is valuable as a realistic process that small and medium enterprises with limited capital and manpower may adopt.

In the 21th century, audiences were fascinated with stereoscopic 3d in the theaters again. Since 2009, interest in stereoscopic 3D had been increased explosively, but shortfall in stereoscopic 3D contents is yet to be solved. However, despite shaky conditions in broadcasting businesses, stereoscopic 3D movies are released steadily in Hollywood. And the movies with strong storytelling are performing in the film market, so common point among them is that stereoscopic 3d techniques are used for subserving narrative immersion effectively. Therefore, stereoscopic 3D techniques will be helpful for enhancing narrative immersion. So I researched relations between immersion and stereoscopic 3D, and proposed space planning process for enhancing narrative immersion in stereoscopic 3D.

This study aims to investigate the complex planning processes and design ideas of the Gwanghwamun Plaza which was opened in 2009. The opening of the plaza was significant as it was built in order to restore the symbolic meaning of axis in the historical Joseon Dynasty that was distorted during the Japanese Imperialism. The plaza itself attracts many citizens and tourists by providing the empty ground carrying historical ambiences around. In this paper, the story of the Gwanghwamun plaza will be summarized. Particularly, the background of promoting the project will be discussed and the whole planning process will be dealt with. The plaza was realized through several stages. First, the planning stage will be reviewed. The planning stage had been a quite long process since the initial idea was discussed. Since the early 90s, the political decision of making the plaza was made through the change of people's understanding toward public space. At this stage, the city government worked together with diverse citizens and professionals to share the vision and to realize the right decision in making the plaza. Second, the design stage will be elaborated in detail. This is the second design stage. The former was the idea competition and the latter was the turn-key base. The final design scheme emphasized the restoration of symbolic axis and the forgotten Yukjo Street. The scheme consists of four zones such as history restoration zone, prospect and history representation zone, culture zone, and the urban zone. Through the whole design process, the original idea remained as it was. The design concept was "a place of memory and prospect." It emphasizes the history representation, view corridor, cultural activities platform as well as the emptiness and flexibility of the basic premise of the plaza. Finally, the construction stage will be discussed. There were some additions and omissions in the construction process. The design chances in the construction stage will be reviewed in detail. After the opening of the plaza, there were some changes in the detail design. We will discuss how and why these modifications were made. In the end, the social and cultural implication of the plaza will be discussed. The storytelling of the Gwanghwamun Plaza will contribute to the clear understanding of planning and design process of pubic places. Based on this reflection, we are able to think about some suggestions of public projects for the future.

An attempt is made to link programs incorporating a number of expert design rules with the process variables obtained by commercial FEM softwares, DEFORM and ANSYS, to form a useful package. The system is composed of four main modules. The process planning and die design module considers several factors, such as the complexities of preform geometry, punch and die profiles, specifications of available multi former, and the availability of standard parts. It can provide a flexible process based on either the reduction in the number of forming sequences by combining the possible two processes in sequence, or the reduction of deviation of the distribution and the level of the required forming loads by controlling the forming ratios. The system uses 2D geometry recognition and is integrated with the technology of process planning, die design, and CAE analysis. The standardization of die parts for multi former-bolt products requiring a cold forging process is described. The system developed makes it possible to design and manufacture multi former-bolt products more efficiently.
