본 연구는 큰 대중적 인기와 권위를 갖는 신경과학 전반에 대한 비판 적 검토를 요청하는 신흥 학문 분야인 ‘비판적 신경과학’을 소개하고, 그것이 도덕교육에 갖는 함의를 도출하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 비판적 신경과학은 신경과학의 기본 가정이자 연구 방법론인 환원주의 의 한계, 핵심 연구 도구인 신경 영상 기술의 불완전성, 신경과학의 적 용 과정에서 신경 가소성 및 신경 자아 이론의 신자유주의 기조 강화 를 중심으로 논의되고 있었다. 이는 도덕교육 연구 및 실천에 있어 신 경과학적 연구 성과의 비판적 수용, 신경과학을 둘러싼 정치·경제적 맥락에 대한 민감성, 자연주의 오류의 경계 등이 요청됨을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study is to introduce ‘Critical Neuroscience' which is an emerging discipline that calls for critical review of the whole neuroscience, which has a large popularity and authority, and to derive its implications for moral education. Critical neuroscience is the basic assumption of neuroscience and the limitation of reductionism which is research methodology, incompleteness of neuroimaging technology as core research tool, neuroplasticity in neuroscience application. This suggests that critical acceptance of neuroscientific research results in moral education research and practice, sensitivity to the political and economic context of neuroscience, and caution against naturalistic errors are required.
