A Survey of Black Hole Detection Policies in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is defined as a network that has many free nodes that are composed of mobile devices that can arrange themselves in various ways. The important aspect of the MANET is security. In MANET the nodes are connected with the help of its dynamic topology and leave network at arbitrary locations. Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol provides dynamic routing between mobile nodes that wish to establish and maintain an ad hoc network. The working of AODV protocol is affected by a particular type of attack called black hole attack.

Mobile ad-hoc network is one of the most attractive fields for research. Any new node easily entered or left the network because of this property is easily thretend by the attack. A wormhole is one of the most crucial attack of MANET in this paper, we study lots of prevention and detection technique. In our propose work we work on trust and reputation mechanism and then secure network novelity of proposed work we proof by our outcomes.

In past few years, mobile ad hoc network has gaining more attention of researchers. Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) are most widely used all over the world, due to its ability to communicate each other without the use of any fixed network. It applications used in military network, disaster relief operations and also in commercial environments. Due to open, dynamic and infrastructure-less nature, the ad hoc networks are vulnerable to various attacks. The black hole and grayhole attack is one of them in MANET. Security is an necessary requirement in MANET. Without any proper security solution, the malicious node in the network will act as a normal node which causes eaves dropping and selective forwarding attack generally known as Gray Hole attack. In this paper we survey on MANET applications, routing protocols, different types of attacks and also the review of researchers.

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a self organizing wireless network for mobile devices. They do not need any fixed infrastructure to be configured which makes it more suitable to be used in environments that require on-the-fly setup. The present work discusses the challenging issues in MANET routing security. It presents improved DSR, a trust-based scheme for securing DSR routing protocol in MANET using the friendship mechanism and gateway. The path which is most optimum is chosen as the final route from source to destination. The gateway nodes should not be malicious .The nodes can evaluate the routing paths according to some selected features (such as node reputation and identity information) before forwarding the data through these routes. It is implemented in our scheme, simulation (using NS2). This scheme provides a robust environment where MANET nodes can trust each other in a secure community. Experimental results show that our gateway based DSR improves network performance to much extent.
