Purpose: This study aimed to provide the basic data for improving patient satisfaction and dental services by examining the satisfaction of implant patients who have become important customers of dental treatment due to the increased demand for implants and identifying the factors affecting satisfaction. Methods: Out of 145 questionnaires, excluding 15 questionnaires that were unfaithfully responded to or difficult to analyze, 130 questionnaires were used for the analysis of the satisfaction of the dental patients with implant treatment in 19 dental hospitals and clinics in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Results: Implant satisfaction was as high as 3.20 (±0.56) for masticatory function satisfaction, 3.19 for psychological function satisfaction (±0.59), and 3.01 (±0.58) for social function satisfaction. Conclusion: Consistent patient care is important because an implant is not a one-shot cure but ends over a period of several months to several years. It is meaningful in that this study measured the satisfaction of implant prostheses evaluated from a patient's point of view and examined various factors and needs affecting patient satisfaction to provide the basic data for research that can contribute to improving the satisfaction of implant patients.

Velopharyngeal insufficiency after surgical resection of soft palate cancer can be troublesome. This report concerns a male suffered from severe dysphagia following combined treatment for soft palate cancer. Sequential videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS) were used to assess his swallowing function and plan the interventional strategies. Initial VFSS showed huge nasal regurgitation, increased oral transit time, residues in oral cavity, delayed swallowing reflex, pharyngeal residue, impaired laryngeal elevation, and aspiration in semisolid and liquid trials. Obturator prosthesis was fabricated to minimize velopahryngeal insufficiency. After application of obturator prosthesis, swallowing dysfunction in oral and pharyngeal stages was markedly improved. Nasal regurgitation was not shown. Oral residue, oral transit time in oral stage also improved. Residue on vallaculae and pyriform sinuses decreased in pharyngeal stage. Aspiration also decreased. We reported successful obturator prosthesis application with sequential changes of clinical and VFSS findings in our case.

This study focused on researching new materials that could increase the lifespan with improvements on the sensors feedback and degree of freedom (DoF) of the prosthesis while retaining its lightweight. Titanium as the main material replacing plastics for support is the backbone of this research. Ultra-thin aluminium oxynitride will be used for extending the lifespan of the prosthesis. This study continues with discussion on the methods for increasing the number of the DoF for myoelectric prosthesis, which includes installation of various sensors for feedback from arm and implantation of nanoelectrodes directly onto the brain’s motor cortex and includes a powerful microprocessor for improve responses, setting up a feedback loop. Purpose: This study aimed to compare the marginal and internal fits of metal three-unit fixed dental prosthesis (FDP) cast from wax and resin patterns produced using milling and three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies. Methods: To fabricate three-unit FDPs, the maxillary right first premolar and molar were prepared on an experimental model (AG-3 ZPVK, Frasaco GmbH), which was then duplicated in metal. The metal model was replicated, and working casts were fabricated using a type IV dental stone. These stone models were scanned using a desktop scanner to fabricate virtual models, allowing for the digital design of the three-unit FDPs. Overall, 30 patterns were fabricated using milling and 3D printing technologies (n=15). Subsequently, all patterns were cast into metal FDPs following conventional laboratory procedures. The marginal and internal fits of the fabricated metal FDPs were evaluated by scanning their inner and outer surfaces in situ on the metal model, followed by digital analysis. Differences in the fit between the two groups of FDPs were analyzed using an independent samples t-test (α=0.05). Results: A significant difference in marginal fit was observed between FDPs fabricated using milling and 3D printing technologies (p<0.001). The milling group exhibited superiority to the 3D printing group in terms of marginal fit (p<0.05). Conclusion: For the fabrication of wax patterns, the milling technology showed superiority to the 3D printing technology in terms of marginal fit for metal three-unit FDPs.

절단장애인을 위한 한국어 의지평가 설문지의 신뢰도

한국어 의지평가 설문지를 개발하고 그 타당도가 연구되었으나, 다리 절단장애인을 대상으로 의지평가 설문지를 적용하여 신뢰도를 평가한 연구는 실시되지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 다리 절단장애인을 대상으로 개발된 한국어-PEQ를 적용하여 그에 대한 신뢰도를 평가하였다. 그 결과, 한국어-PEQ의 모든 항목에서 천장효과와 바닥효과가 15%이하로 나타나 응답의 난이도가 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 한국어-PEQ 영역별 신뢰도(inter-rater reliability)의 급간내 상관계수(intra-class coefficient, ICC)는 .719(95%CI .600~.811)~.920(95%CI .890~.945)로 나타났고, 영역간 신뢰도는 .958로 높게 나타났다. 문항 내적 일치도 Cronbach's ${\alpha}$값은 .910으로 높게 나타나 한국어-PEQ는 높은 신뢰도가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Korean-PEQ (prosthesis evaluation questionnaire) was developed and verified its validity research but, evaluating its reliability applied to the lower extremity amputees have not been conducted. The aim of this study was to apply the Korean-PEQ for lower extremity amputees to evaluate the reliability. As a result, all of the items responding of Korean-PEQ shown to less than 15% ceiling effect and floor effect. therefore, the results were shown to be appropriate. Korean-PEQ reliability of each region of intra-class coefficient was shown to .719(95% CI .600~.811)~920(95%CI .890~.945) and the inter-region reliability was higher as 0.958. Item internal consistency Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ values are shown as higher .910.

Objective: To evaluate the preference of transtibial amputees for the total surface bearing (TSB) socket versus the patellar tendon bearing (PTB) socket, to examine the reasons for their preferences and to determine the clinical indications of each socket. Method: We investigated fifty five subjects who could walk with the TSB silicon liner socket and had already used the PTB socket with supracondylar suspension. The subjects responded to a questionnaire of the 19 items. Results: 67.3% (37/55) of the subjects preferred the TSB silicon liner socket over the PTB socket. More than 60% of the respondents regarded the wearing, appearance, donning & doffing, weight and noise positively. However, knee flexion, walking on an uneven surface, amount of perspiration, heating and odor were regarded negatively by more than 50% of respondents. When we compared the satisfaction scores of 37 respondents who preferred TSB socket and 18 respondents who did not, the two groups showed significant differences in the level of satisfaction for wearing appearance, walking, pistoning, donning & doffing, adaptation, perspiration, heating, odor, skin disorder, stump pain, tightening feeling, and noise (p<0.05). Conclusion: The TSB silicon liner socket was preferred by many transtibial amputee patients. TSB silicon liner socket showed positive effects on comfort, donning & doffing and cosmesis. Also it improved prosthetic suspension as a decrease in pistoning compared to the PTB socket with supracondylar suspension. However the TSB silicon liner socket has some problems such as causing excessive perspiration, heating and odor etc.

We report a case of hemipelvectomy, which was successfully treated with custom-molded supportive seating and a cosmetic prosthesis. A 32-year-old woman with a history of right traumatic hemipelvectomy, 24 years ago, visited our outpatient clinic for proper prosthetic rehabilitation. After injury, she was not able to use functional prostheses because of persistent skin problems of the hemipelvectomy site. She was able to perform all activities of daily living independently, but had to rely on crutch walking and was not able to sit on an even surface for longer periods of time. With the molded supportive seating the patient was able to perform outdoor activities for up to 10 hours. This case shows an approach in amputee rehabilitation, in which the ultimate goal of prosthetic fitting is not independent walking, but the improvement of independence and hence the improvement of quality of life.

본 연구는 한국 노인의 가공의치 보철장착실태 및 필요도를 분석함으로써 노인 구강보건정책에 관련 논의의 근거자료를 마련하고자 한다. 제 5기 국민건강영양조사 대상자 중 65세 이상 노인 4,557명을 대상으로 복합표본 빈도분석, 복합표본 교차분석, 복합표본 로지스틱회귀분석을 이용하여 자료분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 상․하악 보철물상태 및 상 하악 국소의치 및 총의치 필요에서 연령이 증가 할수록, 농촌지역 일수록, 교육수준이 낮을수록 총의치 장착 및 필요에 유의하게 나타났다. 또한 고정성필요에서는 소득, 주관적 건강상태가 관련성이 있었고, 틀니필요에서는 성별, 연령, 교육, 주관적 구강건강상태와 관련성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 노인의 구강기능을 회복하기 위해 구강보건정책과 함께 구강건강증진을 위한 구강보건교육도 마련되어야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to provide the data for discussion related to oral health promotion policies for the elderly by examining and analyzing the prosthesis conditions and necessity for the fixed and removable dentures among the Korean elderly. The data, obtained from 4,557 elderly aged at 65 or higher who were targeted for the 5th National Health Nutrition Survey, were analyzed through the complex sample frequency analysis, complex sample cross analysis, and complex sample logistic regression analysis. The results of analysis showed significant relevance of whole denture implant and the necessity thereof in older subjects, rural community, and subjects with lower education background, regarding the state of upper jaw/lower jaw prosthesis and the necessity for upper jaw/lower jaw fixed partial denture/whole denture. In addition, the necessity for prosthesis implant was found to have correlation with the income and subjective health condition, while the necessity for artificial teeth(denture) was found to have correlation with the gender, age, education, and subjective oral health condition. Therefore, it is considered necessary to map out the prevention and treatment policies designed to help maintain and promote oral health based on oral health education, along with the policies that aim to recover the neutralized oral health functions, in relation to the oral health of the elderly.

This study aimed to examine advancements in dental prosthesis fabrication using digital technology, particularly in implant systems. Digital tools have expanded their application in implant surgery and prosthesis creation, even for edentulous patients. Initially focused on single-tooth restorations, digital implant technology currently encompasses a wider range of treatments, with ongoing research into its limitations and potential. A 70-year-old edentulous patient sought occlusal reconstruction with implants. After years of denture use, the patient experienced significant alveolar bone resorption. A digital implant system based on the “all-on-4” concept was planned, utilizing a digital surgical guide for flapless surgery. Six implants were placed—four anteriorly and two posteriorly—optimizing the prosthodontic plan to reduce the load on the cantilevered areas. The patient’s occlusal function and esthetics were improved significantly. This treatment strategy enhanced the quality of life of the patient, providing a natural smile and demonstrating the benefits of digital technology in dental prosthetics.

Purpose: This study aimed to provide basic data to identify the current status of use of maxillofacial prosthesis across the world and discuss its application and research directions in Korea. Methods: Existing literature (study period, 2010 to 2020) from international studies was collected from PsycINFO, CINAHL, and PubMed, whereas domestic studies were searched using KISS and RISS. Maxillofacial prosthesis was used as the search word. A total of three foreign and two domestic articles were searched, and as a result, a total of 12 documents were selected for analysis. Results: A total of 3,311 studies were searched in this study. Among them, 3,253 articles contained in duplicate inspection and exclusion criteria were removed, and 12 articles were selected by removing literature that did not meet the research criteria through title and green and text reviews. Finally, two researchers selected the final 12 articles through handwritten searches. Eleven of them were case studies, and the remaining one was a descriptive study. Conclusion: This study identified the current status of studies that implemented maxillofacial prosthesis, published from January 2010 to January 2020. Facial prosthetics improve the quality of life of patients by restoring defects that appear on different types of mouth and face and promote both function and aesthetics. Therefore, they can be used to treat various conditions and have a positive impact on the future.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess precision of crown prostheses that were fabricated by using 2 kinds of bur or 3 kinds of bur. Methods: The crowns were fabricated by using the first molar of the right maxillary in this study. The abutments that were prepared were scanned by using a scanner and designed by using CAD software. Based on the crown design, NC data were created with CAM software. The created NC data were used while fabricating the crown prostheses by using 5-axis milling machine. Scanning was done for the internal and external surface of the completed crown prostheses and 3-dimensional measurement was conducted for precision assessment. Results: The RMS±SD value for the external surface of the crown prostheses that was fabricated by using two burs and three burs were 28.5±4.1㎛ and 19.1±2.8㎛, respectively; and the value for two burs were bigger than that for three burs with statistical significance (p<0.001). The RMS±SD value for the internal surface of the crown prostheses that was fabricated by using two burs and three burs were 14.9±1.9㎛ and 13.3±2.5㎛, respectively;and the value for two burs were bigger than that for three burs but with no statistical significance. Conclusion: Based on this study, the prostheses that were fabricated by using 3 bur presented better stability compared to those that were fabricated by using 2 bur and statistically significant difference was found only in the external surface.

Purpose: Prosthodontics for edentulous patients is a treatment technique using implant, which has impactful results in retention and support effects. Methods: As a retention technique, SCRP (screw and cement retained implant prosthesis) has reported in many studies as a beneficial method for both patients and curers, which can reduce errors in process of making abutment and top implant. Results: Prosthesis manufacturing, as polymerization method of hardened resin teeth with thermoplastic resin, is helpful for patients with aesthetic and financial situations regarding residual ridge and interocclusal relationship, also indicates reliable results in both retention and care. Conclusion: Using SCRP technique, we notably obtained a clinical and aesthetic outcome from five implants in anterior tooth, which are half fixable and detachable implants on screw of implant abutment by the technicians at anytime.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to survey dental prosthesis and dental prosthesis needs of elderly for improving oral health status. Methods: The data collected from ‘The fifth Korean national health and nutrition examination survey 2010’ was analyzed in this study. Statistical analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 19.0 for Windows. We determined frequencies and percentage, calculating means, and standard deviations, and determined statistical significance using cross-tabulation analysis, logistic regression analysis. Results: General characteristics showed differences in mandible fixed crown bridge needs associated with periodontal disease. General characteristics showed differences in maxillar partial and full denture with gender, age, education, perceived oral health. General characteristics showed differences in mandible partial and full denture with age, residence, education, perceived oral health. Conclusion: In order to improve oral health of the elderly, Dental prosthesis support policy and oral health policy are necessary.

In the present work the knowledge of dental health as well as dental prosthesis has been studiedon the basis of analysis of current dental prosthetic treatments for dental diseases prophylaxis andthe final decision for dental prosthetic appliance. The results have been analyzed by the currentdental health care and the subjective acknowledgement from 700 people of urban as well as ruralinhabitance in our country. The results from the present work have been summarized as following:Depending dental status has been shown worse to be in the cases of divorce and bereavement,age and less educated or jobless. It is also interesting to note that the dental status has shown to beeven worse than health status. It has been shown that the dental prosthetic treatments have been mainly caused by the oraldisease (62.2%) and depend on the age and the educational level.According to the actual status of dental prosthetic treatments, the fixed partial denture was themost case (78.9%) that increased as divorced, bereavement and as less educated, less income,retired and jobless as well as from urban to rural.As a clinic for the dental prosthetic treatments, dental clinics have been most frequenly visited asindicated by 59.6%, then the un-licensed dentist (6.5%), then the hospitals (3.7%), then the public health centers (2.2%). Most of those who are older in age, less educated and jobless have beentreated by the un-licensed dentists. In point of view on the cost for dental prosthetic treatments, 93.1% have claimed to be tooexpensive, in as the divorced and the bereaved, the older age, the less educated and the jobless.About satisfaction of dental prosthetic treatments, 51.4% was satisfied, 39.4% was normal and9.2% was dissatisfied. Most of people experienced increasing levels of satisfaction as their incomeincrease. Most in the age range of 40-60 have wanted to be insured for the dental prosthetic treatments. Itis alos interesting to note that the older age and the less educated wanted to apply this kind ofinsurance.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the trueness of three-dimensional (3D) printed zirconia single crowns using digital light processing with different build angles. Methods: A prepped maxillary right first molar model was scanned using a dental laboratory scanner (E4, 3Shape A/S). The anatomically contoured crown was designed using computer- aided design software (Dental Designer, 3Shape A/S) and saved as a standard tessellation language file. Three build angles (0°, 30°, and 60°) were defined using the slicing software (Zipros, AON). The crowns were printed using a digital light-processing 3D printer (N=30), followed by debonding and sintering to achieve the final shape. The crowns were scanned postprocessing and analyzed for trueness using 3D inspection software. Data were statistically analyzed with the one-way analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc tests. Results: The root mean square (RMS) values for the internal segments were 40.23 (0°), 53.01 (30°), and 82.49 (60°) μm. The marginal segments recorded RMS values of 34.63 (0°), 59.97 (30°), and 84.16 (60°) μm. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences among the groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: The results indicate that a 0° build angle with uniform height support structures provides the highest accuracy in digital light processing of 3D printed zirconia crowns.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the trueness and fitness of machined prostheses according to drill radius setting in CAD software. Methods: For this study, standard abutment were replicated in Type Ⅳ stone. The stone abutment were scanned using a dental scanner. The CAD design software was designed using scanned abutment data. When designing, the drill radius was set to 0.3 mm and 0 mm, respectively, and saved. The saved design data was milled using a milling machine (n=13). The inner surface of the milled crown was scanned. The trueness and fitness were measured using the inner scan data of prostheses. Independent t-tests were performed to identify significant differences in each data. Results: Trueness values of the data saved with 0.3 mm and 0 mm drill radius were 18.9 ±2.3 ㎛ and 19.1 ±0.9 ㎛, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups. Fitness values of the data saved with 0.3 mm and 0 mm drill radius were 65.5 ±0.8 ㎛ and 33.8 ±1.0 ㎛, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups (p<.05). Conclusion : Setting the drill radius is important to produce clinically good fit prostheses.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to reduce the remake rate of dental prosthesis. We examined remake cause and major factor of dental prosthesis to determine methods for raising dental prosthesis satisfaction. Methods: Subjects included dental technicians in the metropolitan areas of the cities of Daegu and Gyeong-buk. Surveys were filled out by consenting dental technicians. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 19.0 for Windows. We determined frequencies and percentage, calculating means, and standard deviations, and determining statistical significance using t-tests, analysis of variance. Results: Impression or material transform is high among remake cause and margin is high among remake major factor. Crown class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, number of employees, and number of connection dental. Porcelain class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, number of employees, and number of connection dental. Denture class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, monthly salaray, and career. Implant class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, education, and career. Conclusion: In order to reduce remake rate of dental prosthesis, communication of dentist, dental technician, and the patient are require and correct information of patient and dental prosthesis are need.
