Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of dental fixed prostheses fabricated by 3DP (three-dimensional printing). Methods: Ten main models were prepared for the study. Ten specimens were printed by 3DP (3DP group). Ten specimens were fabricated by the lost wax technique and casting method to complete the control group (LWC group). The marginal fit was measured for 20 specimens. The measurement of marginal fit was performed using the silicon replica technique. Finally, the marginal fit of 10 specimens from each group was calculated. An independent sample t-test was run to see if the calculated averages for the two groups were mutually significant (α=0.05). Results: According to the experimental results, the mean marginal fit of the 3DP group was 71.9 μm, and the LWC group was 55.3 μm. The means of the two groups were found to be significantly different (p<0.001) in the results of the independent sample t-test. Conclusion: The marginal fit of fixed dental prostheses produced by 3DP technology was examined with values greater than those fabricated by traditional technology. However, as it appeared to be a value within the range of clinically acceptable range recommended by numerous studies, it was determined that clinical application would be feasible.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the quality of dental prostheses printed by digital lightprocessing (DLP) technology. Methods: Ten experimental models were prepared. The ten specimens that were printed by DLP technology constituted the DLP group. The ten specimens that were produced in the same model by the casting method constituted the control group. The marginal gaps of the 20 specimens produced were measured. These gaps were measured by a silicon replica technique at two abutments of the specimen. Therefore, 20 marginal gaps were measured in each group. An independent sample t-test was performed to compare the marginal gaps measured in the two groups (α=0.05). Results: According to the results of the measurement, there was a significant difference between the mean marginal gap of the control group (78.8 μm) and that of the DLP group (91.5 μm), p<0.001. Conclusion: Although the mean marginal gaps of dental fixed prostheses produced by the DLP method was higher than the mean marginal gap of those produced by the casting method, it was considered to be within the clinical threshold value suggested by some previous studies.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to compare the marginal and internal adaptation of polymethyl methacrylate interim fixed partial denture (FPD) restorations fabricated by three-dimensional (3D) printing with different layer thicknesses. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A standard typodont was scanned by a laboratory scanner. The maxillary left first premolar and first molar teeth received an all-ceramic full-coverage crown preparation, and the second premolar was removed to create a pontic space. The prepared teeth were then scanned, and metal dies were fabricated by a milling machine. Restorations were designed and fabricated in 3 groups (n = 12 in inch) with 25, 50 and 100 ㎛ layer thicknesses. The marginal and internal gaps were measured by the replica technique. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA (α = 0.05). RESULTS. The mean gap size (MGS) in the cervical area of premolar restorations was significantly higher in 100 ㎛ than in 50 and 25 ㎛ thicknesses (P < .05). The MGS in the marginal area of premolar restorations was significantly higher in 100 ㎛ thickness than in 50 ㎛ thickness (P < .05), with no statistically significant difference with 25 ㎛ thickness (P > .05). The MGS at the occlusal and cervical areas of the molar restorations was significantly higher in 100 ㎛ thickness than in 50 ㎛ thickness (P < .05), with no statistically significant difference with 25 ㎛ thickness (P > .05). CONCLUSION. Different thicknesses of additive layers in 3D printing affected the marginal and internal gaps. The smallest gap size was recorded in 50 ㎛ layer thickness.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal misfits of three-unit frameworks fabricated with conventional and digital impressions techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty brass canine and second premolar abutment preparations were fabricated by using a computer numerical control machine and were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=10) as follows: conventional impression group (Group Ci), Cerec Omnicam (Group Cdi), and 3shape TRIOS-3 (Group Tdi) digital impression groups. The laser-sintered metal frameworks were designed and fabricated with conventional and digital impressions. The marginal adaptation was assessed with a stereomicroscope at ${\times}30$ magnification. The data were analyzed with 1-way analysis of variances (ANOVAs) and the independent simple t tests. RESULTS. A statistically significant difference was found between the frameworks fabricated by conventional methods and those fabricated by digital impression methods. Multiple comparison results revealed that the frameworks in Group Ci (average, $98.8{\pm}16.43{\mu}m$; canine, $93.59{\pm}16.82{\mu}m$; premolar, $104.10{\pm}15.02{\mu}m$) had larger marginal misfit values than those in Group Cdi (average, $63.78{\pm}14.05{\mu}m$; canine, $62.73{\pm}13.71{\mu}m$; premolar, $64.84{\pm}15.06{\mu}m$) and Group Tdi (average, $65.14{\pm}18.05{\mu}m$; canine, $70.64{\pm}19.02{\mu}m$; premolar, $59.64{\pm}16.10{\mu}m$) (P=.000 for average; P=.001 for canine; P<.001 for premolar). No statistical difference was found between the marginal misfits of canine and premolar abutment teeth within the same groups (P>.05). CONCLUSION. The three-unit frameworks fabricated with digital impression techniques showed better marginal fit compared to conventional impression techniques. All marginal misfit values were clinically acceptable.

Objectives: This study evaluates the bond strength and marginal adaptation of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Repair HP and Biodentine used as apical plugs; MTA was used as reference material for comparison. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 single-rooted teeth with standardized, artificially created open apices were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 10 per group), according to the material used to form 6-mm-thick apical plugs: group 1 (MTA Repair HP); group 2 (Biodentine); and group 3 (white MTA). Subsequently, the specimens were transversely sectioned to obtain 2 (cervical and apical) 2.5-mm-thick slices per root. Epoxy resin replicas were observed under a scanning electron microscope to measure the gap size at the material/dentin interface (the largest and smaller gaps were recorded for each replica). The bond strength of the investigated materials to dentin was determined using the push-out test. The variable bond strengths and gap sizes were evaluated independently at the apical and cervical root dentin slices. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytic statistics. Results: The comparison between the groups regarding the variables' bond strengths and gap sizes showed no statistical difference (p > 0.05) except for a single difference in the smallest gap at the cervical root dentin slice, which was higher in group 3 than in group 1 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The bond strength and marginal adaptation to root canal walls of MTA HP and Biodentine cement were comparable to white MTA.

PURPOSE. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the amount of marginal gap with two different substructure materials using identical margin preparations. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty stainless steel models with a chamfer were prepared with a CNC device. Marginal gap measurements of the galvano copings on these stainless steel models and Co-Cr copings obtained by a laser-sintering method were made with a stereomicroscope device before and after the cementation process and surface properties were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A dependent t-test was used to compare the mean of the two groups for normally distributed data, and two-way variance analysis was used for more than two data sets. Pearson's correlation analysis was also performed to assess relationships between variables. RESULTS. According to the results obtained, the marginal gap in the galvano copings before cementation was measured as, on average, $24.47{\pm}5.82{\mu}m$ before and $35.11{\pm}6.52{\mu}m$ after cementation; in the laser-sintered Co-Cr structure, it was, on average, $60.45{\pm}8.87{\mu}m$ before and $69.33{\pm}9.03{\mu}m$ after cementation. A highly significant difference (P<.001) was found in marginal gap measurements of galvano copings and a significant difference (P<.05) was found in marginal gap measurements of the laser-sintered Co-Cr copings. According to the SEM examination, surface properties of laser sintered Co-Cr copings showed rougher structure than galvano copings. The galvano copings showed a very smooth surface. CONCLUSION. Marginal gaps values of both groups before and after cementation were within the clinically acceptable level. The smallest marginal gaps occurred with the use of galvano copings.

PURPOSE. Recently introduced hybrid and reinforced glass ceramic computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) materials have been used for full-coverage restorations. However; the effect of adjustment and type of materials on internal and marginal adaptation are unknown. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the marginal and internal adaptations of crowns made of three different CAD/CAM materials before and after adjustment. MATERIALS AND METHODS. One acrylic resin maxillary first molar was prepared and served as the master die. Thirty-six restorations were fabricated using CAD/CAM system (CEREC Omnicam, MCXL) with three materials including lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD), zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (Suprinity), and hybrid ceramic (Enamic). Internal and marginal adaptations were evaluated with the reference point matching technique before and after adjustment. The data were analyzed using mixed ANOVA considering α=.05 as the significance level. RESULTS. The effect of adjustment and its interaction with the restoration material were significant for marginal, absolute marginal, and occlusal discrepancies (P<.05). Before adjustment, Suprinity had lower marginal discrepancies than IPS e.max CAD (P=.18) and Enamic (P=.021); though no significant differences existed after adjustment. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this study, crowns fabricated from IPS e.max CAD and Suprinity resulted in slightly better adaptation compared with Enamic crowns before adjustment. However, marginal, axial, and occlusal discrepancies were similar among all materials after the adjustment.

PURPOSE. This in vitro investigation was designed to assess the vertical marginal discrepancies in monolithic zirconia crowns manufactured using CAD-CAM technology, specifically focusing on the effects of progressive deterioration associated with the cumulative use of tungsten carbide instruments. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Fifty-six monolithic zirconia crowns were manufactured utilizing a dry milling protocol. Milling was continued without bur replacement, and production proceeded with the same bur set even after the system issued a bur replacement warning after the 27th restoration. These restorations were then allocated into four distinct groups (n = 14 per group) based on the milling sequence. Marginal gap measurements were performed with a stereomicroscope, and measurements were obtained from the four surfaces of each crown. To evaluate statistical significance among the groups, a Welch analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted, followed by Games-Howell procedures for post hoc pairwise comparisons. RESULTS. Significant variations in vertical marginal adaptation were detected among the tested cohorts (F = 68.5, P < .001). The mean ± SD (㎛) values were as follows: G1 = 34.78 ± 5.89; G2 = 63.13 ± 14.53; G3 = 82.54 ± 17.61; and G4 = 99.69 ± 21.66. With the exception of Groups 3 and 4, which demonstrated statistically comparable outcomes (P = .126), all other pairwise comparisons yielded significant disparities. The marginal gap increased in parallel with the production sequence (r = 0.86, P < .001). CONCLUSION. As the milling bur usage cycle increased, the marginal gap increased; however, the difference in marginal discrepancy between the later production groups (Group 3 and Group 4) was no longer statistically significant.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aging on the marginal quality of glass hybrid (GH) material used to elevate dentin gingival margins, and to analyze the consistency of the results obtained by 3 in vitro methods. Materials and Methods: Ten teeth received compound class II cavities with subgingival margins. The dentin gingival margins were elevated with GH, followed by resin composite. The GH/gingival dentin interfaces were examined through digital microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using resin replicas, and according to the World Dental Federation (FDI) criteria. After initial evaluations, all teeth were subjected to 10,000 thermal cycles, followed by repeating the same marginal evaluations and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis for the interfacial zone of 2 specimens. Marginal quality was expressed as the percentage of continuous margin at ×200 for microscopic techniques and as the frequency of each score for FDI ranking. Data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and Pearson and Spearmen correlation coefficients. Results: None of the testing techniques proved the significance of the aging factor. Moderate and strong significant correlations were found between the testing techniques. The EDS results suggested the presence of an ion-exchange layer along the GH/gingival dentin interface of aged specimens. Conclusions: The marginal quality of the GH/dentin gingival interface defied aging by thermocycling. The replica SEM and FDI ranking results had stronger correlations with each other than either showed with the digital microscopy results.

This review aimed to characterize the effect of direct restorative material types and adhesive protocols on marginal adaptation and the bond strength of the interface between the material and the proximal dentin/cementum. An electronic search of 3 databases (the National Library of Medicine [MEDLINE/PubMed], Scopus, and ScienceDirect) was conducted. Studies were included if they evaluated marginal adaptation or bond strength tests for proximal restorations under the cementoenamel junction. Only 16 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. These studies presented a high degree of heterogeneity in terms of the materials used and the methodologies and evaluation criteria of each test; therefore, only a descriptive analysis could be conducted. The included studies were individually evaluated for the risk of bias following predetermined criteria. To summarize the results of the included studies, the type of restorative material affected the test results, whereas the use of different adhesive protocols had an insignificant effect on the results. It could be concluded that various categories of resin-based composites could be a suitable choice for clinicians to elevate proximal dentin/cementum margins, rather than the open sandwich technique with resin-modified glass ionomers. Despite challenges in bonding to proximal dentin/cementum margins, different adhesive protocols provided comparable outcomes.

This study was to evaluate the fabrication method and marginal adaptation of the conical inner crown fabricated with CAD/CAM. The informations on abutment teeth were transferred to a computer with a micro contact digitizer, which had a $50{\mu}m$ accuracy on the master die. A conical inner crown was designed on a computer and a real crown was machined based on this design using CAM. The marginal fit of a computer-machined conical inner crown was assessed using electron microscopy Measurement of the marginal gap between the conical inner crown and the abutment was performed on four different locations (mesial, distal, buccal, and lingual surfaces) of the finish line. The evaluation was based on 10 test specimens. The results were as follow. 1 The mean marginal gap between the conical inner crown and abutment tooth was $83.2{\pm}43{\mu}m$, 28.9% of the specimen showed marginal gap over $100{\mu}m$. 2. The fabrication method using CATRS and CAM provided clinically acceptable marginal fitness compared to conventional casting method (P<0.05).

Purpose: The purpose of present study is to examine the correlation between the accuracy of abutment preparation and the marginal adaptation of metal coping. With this view, this study compared the correlations regard to the three different manufacturing methods of selective laser sintering technique, milling and casting. Materials and methods: Two master models were made in a different way. First model with deep chamfer margin was prepared directly by a general clinician and the second model was designed by 3-D designing software program with the same abutment preparation principle and produced by computer aided manufacturing. 12 Co-Cr alloy copings were produced respectively with three different method; SLS system, CAD/CAM milling and conventional lost wax technique from each master model. The total 72 copings fully sit on the master model were stereoscopically evaluated at 40 points along the entire circumferential margin. Results: Significant differences in the absolute marginal discrepancies of Co- Cr copings from SLS system (P=.0231) and casting method (P<.0001) were shown between hand preparation model and computer designed model. However, no significant difference was found between the two model groups from milling method (P=.9962). Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, the effect of the accuracy of abutment preparation on the marginal adaptation of Co-Cr coping is statistically significant in SLS system and casting group. The copings produced by SLS system exhibited the lowest marginal discrepancies among all groups, and the marginal gap of this method group was influenced by the accuracy of the abutment preparation.
