In 2009, Zheng and Miao [B. Zheng and S.-X. Miao, Two new modified Gauss-Seidel methods for linear system with M-matrices, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 233 (2009), 922-930] considered the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving M-matrix linear system with the preconditioner $P_{max}$. In this paper, we consider the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving the linear system with the generalized preconditioner $P_{max}({\alpha})$, and study its convergent properties when the coefficient matrix is an H-matrix. Numerical experiments are performed with different examples, and the numerical results verify our theoretical analysis.

An Independent Administrative Corporation Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) is developing light-and-small Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV)$^{1)}$, named 'MR-X1' (Marine Robot Experimental 1), which can cruise, investigate and observe by itself without human's help. In this paper, we consider the motion control problem of 'MR-X1' and derive a controller. Since the dynamic property of 'MR-X1' is changed by the influence of the speed, the mathematical model of 'MR-X1' becomes the nonlinear model. In order to design a controller for 'MR-X1', we generally apply nonlinear control theories or linear control theories with some constant speed situation. If we design a controller by applying Linear Quadratic (LQ) optimal control theory, the obtained controller only compensates t e optimality at the designed speed situation, and does not compensate the stability at another speed situations. This paper proposes a controller design method using Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs)$^{2),3),4)}$, which can adapt the speed variation of 'MR-X1'. And examples of numerical analysis using our designed controller are shown.

In this paper we obtain the matrix Tau Method representation of a general boundary value problem for Fredholm and Volterra integro-differential equations of order $\nu$. Some theoretical results are given that simplify the application of the Tau Method. The application of the Tau Method to the numerical solution of such problems is shown. Numerical results and details of the algorithm confirm the high accuracy and user-friendly structure of this numerical approach.

A method using the linear matrix algebra is developed in order to determine unknown external forces in linear structural analyses. The method defines a matrix which represents the linearity of the vibrational analysis for a structural system. The unknown external forces are determined by the operations of the matrix. The method is applied to find an engine motion in an automobile system. For a simulation process, an exhaust system is modeled and analyzed by the finite element method. The validity of the simulation is verified by comparing with the experimental results the free vibration. Also, an experiment on the forced vibration is performed to determine the damping ratio of the exhaust sysetm. Estimated model parameters(natural frequency, mode shape) are in accord with the experimental results. Because the method merely repeats the transpose and inverse operations of a matrix, the solution is extremely easy and simple. Moreover, it is more accurate than the existing methods in that there is no artificial assumptions in the calculation processes. Therefore, the method is found to be reliable for the analysis of the exhaust system considering the characteristics of vibrations. Although the suggested method is tested by only the exhaust system here, it can be applied to general structures.
