Lee Hui-Tae’s architecture(Jeoldusan martyrs’s cathedral) has modernistic form and aboriginal Korean sentiment at the same time. Korean sentiment can be seen as formed based on Buddhist and Confucian cultures, and this study is going to analyze his religion architecture focused on sentimental features, which serves as the background of traditional Korean architecture. The purpose of this study is to analyze hierarchical characteristics shown in Lee Hui-tae’s architecture(Jeoldusan martyrs’s cathedral) according to the Hierarchy(Collectivity, Korean-ness) to be shown in traditional Korean architecture. Through this study, to find methods how to adapt and reinterpret hierarchy of Traditional Korean Architecture into modern architecture(Finding Modernization Methods of Traditional Korean Architecture) is the purpose of this study. The reason of such analysis is because it intended for modernistic inheritance of traditional Korean architecture Results of this study are as follows: Hierarchy of traditional Korean architecture different from Hierarchy of western architecture. And Traditional Korean architecture features the hierarchy according to the collectivity shown in hierarchical relationship; Hierarchy of Guardian’s altar - Bodhisattva’s altar - Buddha’s altar expressed in Okchunsa, Tongdosa and Bubjusa according to the hierarchical structure of Buddhist culture(view) is applied to Jeoldusan martyrs’s cathedral; and Service’s district - Auditorium’s district - Shrine’s district expressed in Byungsanseowon, Dosanseowon, Dodongseown Confucian Academies according to the hierarchical structure of Confucian cultures(view) is applied to Jeoldusan martyrs’s cathedral. And Site plan(principle) of traditional architecture(前低後高) is expressed in Jeoldusan martyrs’s cathedral. Through this study, it is possible to develop Korean nature appeared in traditional Korean architecture and to apply to modern Korean architecture. And value of this study is that it proposes starting point of discussion for method which realize hierarchy.
