Objectives : To study and compare the effects of monocular patching and half-eyes patching on the unilateral neglect of stroke patients.Methods : Eleven stroke patients with the unilateral neglect were enrolled. To these patients eight tests such as line bisection test, Albert’s test, letter cancellation test, shape cancellation test, house copying, daisy copying, clock drawing, and reading task were applied for the evalua-tion of the unilateral neglect. These tests were done without patching and with monocular and half-eyes patching respectively.Results : Eye patching methods were effective for reducing the unilateral neglect in 11.1 ∼ 57.1% of patients. Half-eyes patching was significantly effective in clock drawing test(p=.02), In general half-eyes patching was more effective than monocular patching.Conclusion : We suggest that eye patching method could be used as an effective and prac-tical way to reduce the unilateral neglect of the stroke patients.
Objective: To explore the effect of a eye patching technique in order to decrease patients’ unilateral neglect. For this study, eye patching is easy to get and a simple method that most patients find acceptable. Method: This study used the ABA design. The subject was a male patient at the age of 66 who had the left hemiplegia and left unilateral neglect caused by right cerebral vascular accident. He was required to wear the eye patching on the right eye during all the period of ADL because unilateral neglect causes many problems in the majority of ADL. The assessments for the unilateral neglect had been performed by the Line bisection and the Albert test once a session (day). Results: Regarding the Means of the errors to the Line bisection and the Albert test, the Means of the errors was decreased during the period of the intervention (B) and was decreased after the withdrawal (A'). Conclusions: Right monocular patching was effective to release the unilateral neglect. Further study is necessary to increase the sample size and the duration of experiments.
Objective: The purpose of this paper was to study the effect of typing speed and accuracy according to 4 different typing aids on computer keyboard and mouse use. Method: The subjects of this study were 11 of C6∼C7 complete injury patients who had been over six months after injury, and four style of the typing aids, finger, slip-on, band, and modified finger, were used in this study. Each data of typing aid was collected by measuring typing speed and accuracy and analysed with SPSS 10.0. Results: The measured result according to 4 typing aids in typing speed showed that a modified finger typing aid was 41.09 as the highest performance and a bend typing aid was 33.27 as the lowest performance. The typing speed through styles was statistically significant(p<0.05). The measured result according to typing aid style in typing accuracy showed that a bend typing aid was 96.45% as the highest performance and a finger typing aid was 95.45% as the lowest performance. The typing accuracy through styles was not statistically significant(p>0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that modified typing aid seems to be the most efficient among four style of typing aids. Thus, modified typing aid can be an available typing aid having both functional and cosmetic factor for C6∼C7 complete injured patients. In the future use of the modified typing aid should be needed much more as well as its reevaluation should be performed.
안대 착용 후 시각적 피드백 훈련이 편측무시 환자의 균형 및 시지각에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 좌측 편측무시 환자에게 안대로 우측 눈을 가린 후 시각적 피드백 훈련을 하였을 때 균형, 시지각 기능과 편측무시에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 출혈 및 뇌경색으로 뇌졸중이란 진단을 받은 환자로 발병이 6개월 이상 경과하고 연구목적에 동의한 좌측 편마비 환자 25명을 대상으로 하였다. 실험 기간은 2008년 4월 28일부터 2008년 6월 5일까지 6주간 주 5회 30분씩 시행하였다. 실험군(n=13)은 우측에 안대 착용 후 시각적 피드백 훈련을 하였으며, 대조군(n=12)은 우측에 안대 착용 후 체중부하 훈련을 시행하였다. 실험 전후 평가는 균형 검사, 시지각 검사와 선 이등분 검사를 통하여 이루어졌다. 균형 검사의 집단간 비교는 차이를 보이지 않았다. 그러나 전후 비교에서 실험군과 대조군 모두 유의한 향상이 있었다. 시지각 검사인 MVPT-V의 집단간 비교에서 유의한 차이를 보였고, 전후 비교에서 실험군과 대조군 모두 유의한 향상이 있었다. 편측무시 검사인 선 이등분 검사의 비교에서 집단 간에 유의한 차이를 보였고, 전후 비교에서 두 집단 모두 편측무시의 향상이 있었다. 본 연구 결과로 편측무시 환자에게 눈을 가린 후 시각적 피드백 훈련은 균형, 시지각 기능의 회복과 편측무시 감소에 효과적임을 알 수 있었다.
This study aims to investigate whether a visual feedback training after the eye patching method on the non-neglected side would lead to less unilateral neglect and visual perception. This study used the pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects were 25 left hemiplegic patients who showed the feature of unilateral neglect. The subjects were randomly assigned into experimental group(n=13) and control group(n=12). The experimental group was asked to participate in visual feedback training & eye patching. The control group was asked to participate in weight bearing training & eye patching. both experimental and control groups participated in exercise classes 30 minutes per day five times a week for 6 weeks. It’s effect was evaluated by the standing balance, MVPT-V, line bisection test. Collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS Ver. 12.0 using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, ANCOVA. The following results were obtained. In the standing balance, there was not statistical significance between the experimental group and control group. but there was a statistical significance to pre and post test with the experimental group and control group. In the MVPT-V, line bisection test, there was statistical significance between the experimental group and control group. and there was a statistical significance to pre and post test with the experimental group and the control group. As a result, the experimental group was shown effective in reducing unilateral neglect syndrome. Future study considered need to be more the study relative to variable visual feedback training to stroke patients with unilateral neglect.
간헐외사시에서 원거리 정도와 한시간 사시안 가림에 따른 사시각의 변화

목적 : 간헐외사시에서 검사하는 원거리 정도와 1시간 동안의 사시안 가림이 사시각에 변화를 주는지 알아보았다. 대상과 방법 : 간헐외사시 환아 60명을 대상으로 실내 6m와 14m, 옥외 30m에서, 또 1시간 동안 사시안을 가린 후 실내 6 m에서 사시각을 측정하여 비교하였다. 굴절이상, 입체시, 억제검사도 하였다. 결과 : 평균 사시각은 실내 6 m에서 28.2±5.64PD, 14 m에서 29.7±6.54PD, 옥외 30 m에서 30.3±2.84PD로 6 m보다 14 m와 30 m의 사시각이 증가하였다(p<0.01). 14 m와 30 m에서의 사시각은 유사하였다(p=0.08). 사시안을 1시간 가린 후의 사시각은 평균 29.3±5.48PD로 6 m 보다는 증가하였으나(p=0.01), 14 m와 30 m의 사시각과는 유사하였다(p>0.05). 거리에 따라 사시각이 증가한 31명은 증가하지 않은 29명의 26.2±5.72PD에 비하여 평균 사시각이 31.4±5.30PD로 30PD이상 큰 경우였다. 두 경우에 굴절이상, 입체시, 억제 등은 상관관계가 없었다. 결론 : 간헐외사시에서 원거리 사시각은 6 m보다 먼 거리와 사시안을 1시간을 가린 후 증가하는 경향이었으며 6 m에서 사시각이 30PD 이상인 경우 거리에 따라 사시각이 증가하는 경향이 있었다.
Purpose: To determine the change of exoangle according to the measure distance and 1-hour occlusion of exotropic eye in intermittent exotropia. Methods: We prospectively reviewed the records of 60 patients diagnosed with intermittent exotropia. The exoangle was measured at 6 m, 14 m, outdoor 30 m and at 6 m after occlusion of exotropic eye for 1 hour. Refractive error, stereoacuity and suppression were investigated in all subjects. Results: The mean amount of exoangle was 28.2±5.64 PD at 6 m, 29.7±6.54 PD at 14 m and 30.3±2.84 PD at outdoor 30 m. The amounts of exoangle at 14 m and at outdoor 30 m were significantly increased compared with that at 6 m (p=0.009 and p=0.005, respectively). However, there was no significant difference between that at 14 m and at 30 m (p=0.08). The mean amount of exoangle after occlusion of exotropic eye for 1 hour was 29.3±5.48 PD, which was not statistically different from that at 14 m (p=0.44) and at 30 m (p=0.19). In 31 patients (51.7%) who had an increase of exoangle more than 3 PD at 14 m and 30 m compared to that at 6 m, mean exoangle at 6 m was 31.4±5.30 PD. In 29 patients (48.3%) who had an increase of exoangle less than 3PD, mean exoangle at 6 m was 26.2±5.72 PD. Increase of exoangle was prominent in patients with exoangle more than 30 PD at 6 m. There was no correlation in the amount of exoangle according to refractive error, stereoacuity and the presence of suppression (p=0.17, p=0.47, p=1.0, respectively). Conclusions: The exoangle increased at distances longer than 6 m and after 1-hour occlusion of exotropic eye in intermittent exotropia. The increment of exoangle according to distance was prominent in patients with exoangle more than 30 PD at 6 m.
