Dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has shown to alter growth rates and tissue lipid concentration in some species of fish, but not in rockfish. Carotenoid has been proven to have antioxidant activity and dietary carotenoid can be accumulated in muscle and integument of fish. The aim is to test the hypotheses that CLA mixed with carotenoid has beneficial effects in rockfish including enhancing growth rates, decreasing lipid composition and increasing the accumulation rate of carotenoid in the white muscle fish. All the fish were feed twice a day with for 4 weeks with formulated diets composed of a mixture of CLA, carotenoids and tunic extracts. At the end of the experiment, the daily growth rate index, feed intake, feed efficiency ratio, the whole body composition and fatty acid and carotenoid content were determined. Results of the study indicate that dietary CLA mixed carotenoid in rockfish had no significant effect on growth or biometric parameters. In addition, CLA and carotenoid can alter fatty acid metabolism and can be incorporated to tissue lipid in both muscle and viscera.
