[Purpose] This study uses Explainable AI (XAI) to enhance corporate financial distress (delisting) prediction accuracy while overcoming the limitations of traditional linear models (Altman Z-Score) and machine learning's "black-box" nature. Unlike prior single-model studies, it identifies heterogeneous, non-linear distress pathways across firm sizes and industries, ensuring robustness through expanded model comparisons and bias-corrected validation. [Methodology] Using Propensity Score Matching (PSM, 1:3), firms delisted from the Korean capital market (KOSPI/KOSDAQ) were matched with financially healthy firms, yielding a final sample of 461 firm-year observations. Independent variables comprise Altman's five financial ratios—liquidity (), cumulative profitability (), operating profitability (), market-value-based financial structure (), and asset turnover ()—with firm size and industry as moderating variables. Dynamic analyses were conducted one to three years prior to delisting (T-1 to T-3), comparing the Z-Score logistic regression (baseline) against Random Forest, XGBoost, LightGBM, and CatBoost, with hyperparameters tuned via Bayesian Optimization and final performance estimated through Repeated Nested Cross-Validation. Interpretation used SHAP (variable contribution and dynamic transition) and Partial Dependence Plots (PDP; non-linear thresholds by firm size and industry), with PDP robustness verified through Accumulated Local Effects (ALE) analysis. [Findings] First, machine learning consistently outperformed the traditional baseline across all time horizons (T-1 ROC-AUC: CatBoost 0.901, RF 0.897, XGBoost 0.888 vs 0.844; T-3: CatBoost 0.789, RF 0.785, XGBoost 0.782), with DeLong tests and NRI confirming statistical significance. Second, SHAP showed cumulative profitability () as the dominant top predictor across all periods - its contribution surging from 10.67%p to 18.95%p near delisting - alongside rising importance of asset turnover () and market confidence (). Third, PDP analysis showed large firms exhibiting a "cliff effect," with distress risk rising sharply beyond a critical threshold, whereas small firms displayed a gentler "survival tolerance" sustained by external financing. Fourth, Hypothesis 3, anticipating heightened sensitivity to asset turnover in the wholesale/retail industry, was rejected; instead, a "fixed-cost cliff effect" driven by reverse operating leverage was identified in IT/electronics manufacturing, where fixed-cost burdens are relatively high. [Implications] Academically, this study bridges XAI and non-linear corporate distress pathways, integrating too-big-to-fail, critical transition, zombie firm survival, and operating leverage theories with empirical machine-learning trajectories. Practically, auditors and rating agencies must adopt customized early-warning systems: treating large-firm deterioration as a severe systemic risk signal, assessing small firms via external financing capacity rather than losses alone, and prioritizing asset turnover() threshold deviations in manufacturing credit evaluations.

해석은 SHAP(변수 기여도·동태적 전이)과 PDP(규모·산업별 비선형 임계치, ALE로 강건성 재확인)로 수행하였다.
