This study explored the potential of plastiglomerate as a resource for environmental education by examining changes in scientifically gifted elementary students' perceptions of the Anthropocene. Twenty gifted students (grades 5–6) read a balanced text describing the Anthropocene concept and the 2024 rejection of its formal ratification as a geological epoch, and then encountered plastiglomerate (a stone-like material formed when melted plastic fuses with sand, gravel, and shells) through photographs and factual explanations. A single group pre-post mixed methods design combined nonparametric tests, thematic coding reviewed by three experts, and semantic network analysis. Support for the Anthropocene concept increased significantly (p < .001, r = .77), with no student showing a decrease. All three initially skeptical students shifted to support after their specific grounds for skepticism were directly refuted by the material evidence, exhibiting theory change without resistance responses; the remaining seventeen incorporated the evidence into their existing reasoning. Semantic networks showed the center of students' discourse moving from concept-evaluation vocabulary to material-evidence vocabulary. The main facilitating factors were tangibility, recognition of permanence and scale, and emotional arousal. These findings suggest that plastiglomerate can translate the abstract Anthropocene discourse into a concrete matter of evidence, integrating earth science content with environmental education.
