With the recent advent of GenAI, preparing L2 students to write an effective Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume, in English, a typical genre in English for Professional Purposes (EPP) courses, presents unique challenges and opportunities. GenAI tools can create professional-looking CVs, yet L2 students may struggle to analyze them or recognize issues of using AI-generated CVs when they apply for jobs. To develop L2 writers’ CV-writing skills in the GenAI age, an intervention was conducted within an EPP course at a Hong Kong tertiary institution. The intervention lasted six hours and involved various activities designed to demonstrate the opportunities and limitations of using GenAI tools to assist with CV writing. Data were collected from 24 students through pre- and post-intervention questionnaires. Findings indicate a slight improvement in students' confidence and perception of the importance of CV writing, though challenges remain in differentiating AI-generated content and in addressing concerns about accuracy and policy restrictions. The study underscores the need for EPP courses to integrate AI literacy, ensuring students can effectively leverage AI while maintaining their unique voice in professional CVs.
