The rapid growth of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed second language (L2) writing, which makes learners’ acceptance of AI-assisted writing an important area of research. This study investigated newly admitted Korean pre-service teachers’ acceptance of AI-assisted English writing using an adapted extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Data were collected from 232 first-year pre-service teachers during university orientation, prior to the start of their formal university coursework. The questionnaire measured Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), Perceived Risk (PR), Perceived Usefulness (PU), Subjective Norms (SN), Self-efficacy (SE), Intention to Use (IU), and self-reported AI-assisted writing use. Descriptive and correlational analyses indicated generally favorable perceptions of AI-assisted writing, although high PR scores represented concern instead of acceptance. The confirmatory factor analysis provided partial support for the proposed 7-factor measurement structure; therefore, the subsequent regression analyses were exploratory. The regression analyses found that SN and SE predicted PU, while PU, SE, and SN significantly predicted IU. IU and SE were also significantly associated with self-reported AI-assisted writing use. PEOU and PR did not make significant contributions in the relevant regression models. These findings provide baseline evidence of AI acceptance among newly admitted pre-service teachers and emphasize the importance of responsible AI literacy in English writing instruction.

The goals of Asia TEFL are to promote scholarship, disseminate information, and facilitate cross-cultural understanding among persons concerned with the teaching and learning of English in Asia. In order to accomplish this, Asia TEFL will pursue the following goals:
1. To link ELT professionals in joint research on issues and concerns regarding English teaching and learning in the Asian context.
2. To publish an academic journal, The Asia TEFL Journal, as an internationally recognized journal in the field of English language teaching.
3. To host conferences and seminars addressing important issues concerning ELT in Asia.
4. To develop proficiency guidelines and assessment methods designed for the needs of the Asian context.
5. To develop programs for Asian learners and teachers of English to build their English language proficiency and cultural understanding and provide them with the skills required to be efficient English teaching professionals.
