A Study on Practicing True Love and Establishing Economic Ethics : Focusing on the Discourse of Altruism in Modern Management Psychology
This study examines the economic ethics of Unification Thought, focusing on the practice of True Love, based on an analysis of the correlation between altruism and economic success presented in contemporary managerial psychology discourse. Modern managerial psychology—particularly through discussions on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) and prosocial motivation theory—has empirically demonstrated that an attitude of prioritizing value creation for others over an egoistic economic perspective ultimately yields sustainable economic achievements for both individuals and organizations. Furthermore, this study verifies that these academic findings share profound intersections with the economic ethics emphasized by True Parents, which champions an "other-centered" rather than "self-centered" approach and a "giving" rather than "receiving" perspective, while encompassing the spirit of total investment, the philosophy of living for the sake of others, the principle of give-and-receive action of True Love, and the thought of the dominion of all things. Furthermore, this study critically reviews the pragmatic limitations of secular "Giver" models and presents an original framework for True Love-based economic ethics aimed at promoting mutual human welfare and realizing the public good, moving beyond the mere accumulation of private profit. Although this study possesses methodological limitations —specifically, the lack of community-based institutional designs to protect altruistic economic agents, a deficiency in connecting with macro-level domains due to its micro-level focus on individuals, and the absence of independent empirical data—it holds significant academic value in providing a baseline for concrete, practical implementation strategies within economic discourse that has previously remained conceptual. In conclusion, by verifying that the correlation between altruism and economic success was already inherently embedded as a valuable teaching within the economic ethics of the Family Federation, this study reveals that the core task moving forward lies in establishing the practice of True Love within economic activities as a concrete and sustainable 'ethics of daily life'.
