This paper aims to demonstrate that the founding philosophy and educational operational plans of Sun Moon University were designed to institutionalize the core principles of the Unification Theory of Education within higher education. This argument is grounded in a cross-analysis of the theory of education presented in Essentials of Unification Thought and the speeches of Rev. Sun Myung Moon regarding Sun Moon University. The Unification Theory of Education views the human growth process—resembling God's Shimjung (heart/emotional nature), Logos, and creativity—as the essence of education. It presents the Three Great Ideals (Individual Perfection, Family Perfection, and Completion of Dominion) along with three forms of education: Shimjung (Heart) Education, Norm Education, and Dominion Education. Rev. Moon's speeches concerning Sun Moon University consistently highlight "Love God, Love People, Love Country," the cultivation of true human beings, the "Three Subject Thought" (Parents, Teachers, Leaders), purity and family ethics, major competency, internationalization, and the vision of a World University Federation. Going beyond a simple listing of similarities, this study uses issues raised in previous research—such as schematic rigidity, relationality, lived experience, and educator support— as analytical criteria. The findings reveal that Sun Moon University was envisioned as: 1. A venue for character education that integrates intellect, emotion, will, and expertise centered on Shimjung; 2. A venue for norm education that expands familial love and responsibility into the university community; and 3. A venue for dominion education that connects academic disciplines, technology, language, and international networks to world peace and the public good. Furthermore, the study confirms that key institutional areas—such as founding ideals, educational actors, curriculum, student life, and international cooperation—serve as channels that translate the concepts of Unification Education Theory into institutional practices. However, institutional implementation is not completed merely through founders' declarations or directives; it must be continuously verified through actual curricula, teaching and learning, student experiences, organizational culture, and performance evaluations. Therefore, this paper defines Sun Moon University not as a fully completed realization of the Unification Theory of Education, but as a historical endeavor to translate its principles into the university system—a contemporary task that requires ongoing renewal.

본 논문은 『통일사상요강』의 교육론(통일교육론)과 문선명 선생의 선문대학교 관련 말씀을 교차 분석하여, 선문대학교의 건학이념과 교육운영 구상이 통일교육론의 핵심 원리를 고등교육 제도 안에서 구현하려는 기획이었음을 논증하는 데 목적이 있다. 통일교육론은 하나님의 심정·로고스·창조성을 닮아 가는 인간의 성장과정을 교육의 본질로 보고, 개체완성·가정완성·주관성완성이라는 3대이념과 심정교육·규범교육·주관교육이라는 3형태를 제시한다. 선문대학교 관련 말씀에는 ‘애천·애인·애국’, 참된 인간, 부모·스승·주인의 ‘3대주체사상’, 순결과 가정윤리, 전공역량과 국제화, 세계대학연맹 구상이 지속적으로 나타난다. 본고는 양자의 유사성을 단순 나열하는 데 그치지 않고, 선행연구가 제기한 도식성, 생활경험, 교육자 지원의 문제를 분석 기준으로 삼았다. 분석 결과, 선문대학교는 첫째 심정을 중심으로 지·정·의와 전문성을 통합하는 인격교육의 장, 둘째 가정적 사랑과 책임을 대학공동체로 확장하는 규범교육의 장, 셋째 학문·기술·언어·국제 네트워크를 세계평화와 공익에 연결하는 주관교육의 장으로 구상되었다. 또한 건학이념, 교육주체, 교육과정, 학생생활, 국제협력이라는 대학의 주요 영역이 통일교육론의 개념을 제도 언어로 전환하는 매개임을 확인하였다. 그러나 통일교육론의 구현은 설립자의 선언이나 교시의 존재만으로 완성되는 것이 아니며, 실제 교육과정, 교수학습, 학생경험, 조직문화, 성과평가에서 반복적으로 검증되어야 한다. 이에 본 논문은 선문대학교를 통일교육론의 완결된 실현체가 아니라, 그 원리를 대학제도 속에 번역하려는 기획이자 지속적으로 갱신되어야 할 현재적 과제로 규정한다.
