Mass Flow Rate Ratio Analysis of a R744 and R717 Cascade Refrigeration System for Optimal Refrigerant Charge
In this paper, the effects of superheat, subcooling, evaporating, condensing temperature, cascade evaporating temperature, compression efficiency, etc. were analyzed for the optimal refrigerant charging of a R744-R717 cascade refrigeration system. Refrigerants used in the cascade refrigeration system are R744 in the low and R717 in high temperature cycle. The main results are summarized as follows : The mass flow rate ratio increases with increasing subcooling, superheating degree, compression efficiency and condensing temperature in the high temperature cycle. And the mass flow rate ratio decreases with increasing temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger and evaporating, cascade evaporating temperature. It was confirmed that the mass flow rate ratio due to superheating, subcooling, condensing, evaporating temperature, temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger, compression efficiency and etc., affects the performance coefficient of the cascade refrigeration cycle of R744 and R717, and it was found that for each of these factors, there exists a mass flow rate ratio for optimal refrigerant charging that maximizes the performance of the cascade refrigeration cycle.
