As AI and digital technologies become increasingly integrated into education, their relationship with students’ social–emotional development requires closer examination. This study investigated the relationships between the frequency of AI and digital device use and social–emotional competencies among 474 elementary school students in Grades 3–6, with a focus on gender and grade-level differences. Correlation analyses showed significant positive relationships between digital device use and AI use across all groups. However, their relationships with social–emotional competencies differed by gender and grade level. Among upper-grade boys, AI and digital device use were positively correlated with responsible decision-making, whereas among girls, they were negatively correlated with empathy and responsible decision-making. These findings suggest the need for differentiated social and emotional learning support that considers gender and grade-level characteristics when designing AI- and digital technology-based education.

AI·디지털 기술의 교육적 확산과 함께 기술의 활용이 학생의 사회정서적 발달에 미치는 영향에 관한 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 본 연구는 초등학생의 AI·디지털 기기 활용 빈도와 사회정서역량 간의 관계를 성별 및 학년군에 따라 분석하고자 초등학교 3~6학년 학생 474명을 대상으로 설문 후 상관분석하였다. 분석결과, 디지털 기기 사용과 인공지능 활용 빈도 간에는 모든 집단에서 유의한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 사회정서역량과의 관계는 성별 및 학년군에 따라 상이하였는데, 남학생 고학년에서는 AI·디지털 기기 활용과 책임 있는 행동하기 간에 정적 상관이, 여학생 집단에서는 공감하기 및 책임 있는 행동하기와 부적 상관이 나타났다. AI·디지털 기술 활용 교육 설계 시 성별 및 학년군별 특성을 고려한 차별화된 사회정서학습 지원이 필요함을 시사하였다.
