Since 2001, this writer has written five papers related to Arirang, and since 1993, has included Arirang-related folk songs in more than twenty individual county folk song collections such as The Folk Songs of Sangju. In this paper, I discussed only Araseong, Iya-type, Arirang Sangsa, and the Sanaji song, from which Jindo Arirang derives, and followed by an examination of Arirang-related sounds that were transmitted in the Gongju region during the 1980s. The Gongju-region transmitted Arirang is weak in terms of being a “distinctive face,” and thus there is some resistance to calling it Gongju Arirang. However, from the perspective of a people’s history orally handed down among the populace,protecting ‘Arirang Traditions Transmitted in Gongju’ appears to be of value.

필자는 2001년 이후 아리랑에 관련한 5편의 논문과 1993년 이후 『상주의 민요 등 25여 권의 개별 시군 민요집 저서를 통하여 아리랑 관련 민요를 게재해 왔었다. 본 고에서는 아라성, 이야형, 아리랑 상사와 진도아리롱의 출처가 되는 산아지 곡에 대하여만 별도 언급하고, 이어서 1980년대에 공주지역에 전승하고있던 아리랑 유관 소리에 대하여 살펴보았다. 전통문화란 문화적 유산(遺産)으로 개성있는 얼굴이며, 경쟁력있는 창조의 원천이다. 공주지역 전승 아리랑은 ‘개성적 얼굴’이란 의미에서는 약하지만, 민중의 구전적 역사라는 의미에서는 소중하다.
