Design Optimization of an Ion Filter Distribution Chamber for Improved Flow Uniformity and Filtration Efficiency
This paper presents a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) study optimizing an ion filter distribution chamber for beverage processing. To prevent localized media channeling caused by conventional axial-flow filters, the proposed configurations incorporate multi-directional outlets and internal flow-distribution features. Seven geometric variants were evaluated under steady-state conditions using ANSYS Fluent. The study identifies an optimum configuration that balances a near 50/50 mass flow split with low hydraulic resistance, maximizing ion-exchange resin utilization while avoiding destructive, high-velocity jets.
