The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of social support on the relationship between major satisfaction and career preparation behavior among college students majoring in companion animal studies. An online survey was administered to students enrolled in companion animal-related departments at nine universities located in the Seoul metropolitan, Chungcheong, and Yeongnam regions and the responses of 193 students were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and the PROCESS macro. Correlation analysis was conducted, followed by mediation analysis with grade level included as a control variable. The statistical significance of the mediating effect was examined through a bootstrapping procedure. The findings indicated that major satisfaction had significant positive effects on social support and career preparation behavior, and that social support also had a significant positive effect on career preparation behavior. In addition, social support was found to partially mediate the relationship between major satisfaction and career preparation behavior. These findings suggest that enhancing students’ satisfaction with their major and strengthening social support systems centered on family members and friends may contribute to promoting career preparation behavior among college students majoring in companion animal studies. Based on these findings, implications for career guidance and curriculum development were presented.

본 연구는 반려동물 전공 대학생의 전공만족도와 진로준비행동의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 매개효과를 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 수도권, 충청권 및 영남권 소재 9개 대학의 반려동물 관련 학과 재학생을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 수집된 193명의 응답자료는 SPSS 25.0과 PROCESS Macro를 활용하여 분석하였다. 상관분석과 학년을 통제변수로 투입한 매개효과 분석을 실시하였고, 부트스트래핑 절차를 통해 매개효과의 유의성을 검증하였다. 연구 결과, 전공만족도는 사회적 지지와 진로준비행동에 유의한 정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 사회적지지 또한 진로준비행동에 유의한 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 전공만족도와 진로준비행동의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 부분매개효과가 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 전공교육에 대한 만족도를 높이고, 가족과 친구를 중심으로 한 사회적 지지체계를 강화하는 것이 반려동물 전공 대학생의 진로준비행동을 촉진하는 데 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다. 이를 바탕으로 진로지도 및 교육과정 운영을 위한 시사점을 제시하였다.
